did rock and roll kill grooming & style?

rock and roll meaning the supposed "golden age"

in the forties men wore suits, hats and handkerchiefs with short hair

women had skirts, red lipstick and marcel waves/curls

now women wear cargo pants and men wear beer slogans on their clothes

    wtf happened?

Sounds like this is coming from a disgruntled 80 year old......lol.

The only answer I can think of: Choice came along and introduced him/herself.

Hell, jazz cats still wore suits..they were just sharkskin suits.

The whole anti establishment culture, associated with hippies and freedom of choice in the 60's is when it all changed.

    NO!
people figured out that they weren't robots and or clones and decided to do what best suited them, not what was expected of them regardless if fit the status quo. nothing was killed.... it's called INDIVIDUALITY.

just as looking down on someone because they might not share the same thoughts on fashion (amongst other things) as you do is called PREJUDICE!!!!.

i'd say the 50's bohemian/beatniks had an earlier influence - the late 60's were more visually dramatic

You may have a point, but I still believe it was a much larger movement, than the beatnik culture.

maybe they are best suited to something more form fitting, lol

the only individuality in terms of expression would be nudity - unless you and the next gent share a similar penis bend and manscaping plot

As for the charges against me, I am unconcerned. I am beyond their timid lying morality, and so I am beyond caring.

    Just some thoughts

war - post war - millenium

some things changed for the better, the better things got, the less dressy we got. Also, people who worked in manufacturing or docks etc (manual work) wanted to dress up at the end of the day, now so many more people are office based, they dress down after work.

fashion didn't change much from the 20's to 40's.
it hasn't changed much from the 90's to now either apart from gore-tex, polypropylene & other newer fabrics

fashion does change when new genres of music gain popularity

It seems the major benefit of space travel seems to be that a few new fabrics arrive, and are used in clothing a decade or two later, LOL
