I thought it a bit odd that rations and funds were in place even before the damage had been assessed. I sympathize with those who live in that region and pray for solace for those who may have suffered the loss of a loved one but there is a part of me that hungers to understand how we as “Americans” can allow the government to react so expeditiously for some of its constituents and so cavalier towards others. I think back and it has been about four years since Katrina ripped New Orleans to pieces and yet there is still very little being done to rebuild the homes of the many underprivileged of that region. Ike hasn’t been gone long enough for his scent to leave the room and our country is sending in FEMA, the National Guard, the dog, cat and a couple of mothers toting the kitchen sink to assist the people of the Lone State. Where is the constitutional equality? (I know but let me have my dreams). I may be wrong but someone should be sounding an alarm especially in this great “Time for a Change” climate. The media has been very quiet concerning the damage done to Texas but I don’t believe that the devastation would be anywhere close to Katrina and yet the aid given is stellar. I anxiously await the many comments to come from our fabulous frontrunners; who will pick up the gauntlet and use this disaster to increase their spotlight but more importantly will either of them speak about its blatant injustice?
I am by no means an expert on this and am just voicing my (uneducated) opinion. I welcome any clarification offered to ease my troubled mind.
