Hi all. I'd like 2 start a discussion on the creative aspect of the Producer. Care 2 share about your process? Specifically that not related 2 things technical.

my studio is at home so i made it a nice place to be a few josticks lighted nice lighting a nice couch to sit on

personaly i start with a blank page listen to a few tracks from my rack then start with the drums
things just happen from there any idea i had to start off usualy mutates anyway

In terms of atmosphere I like leaving the room pretty simple with lots of lighting options.

In terms of just getting the flow going and staying in it. I like playing drums or using an mpc to start off and I like to keep the creative stage as distinct from the editing stage as possible - and try to set templates up in all the software so that I don't have to worry about any of that.

I'm talking specifically bout being away frm the studio. I often times go walking the city alone late @ nite. Until my lady started tripping bout the hookers & dealers. I find it loosens up staid energy.

i have never worked with templates would like to try but not sure how
can you give any examples?

By making templates I just mean saving a file where everything is already set up to cut down on any technical distractions that you might have to sort through once you get in the groove. In cubase it might mean having x# of audio & midi files and having them all mapped to the right i/o's and maybe even certain vst's loaded and ready to jam with the correct midi triggers. Then in reason it might be a matter of having a mixer set up with the right effects and a drum kits or maybe even a real minimal beat already programmed to get things moving, etc... It's nothing super technical. The idea is to just get it all set up and then save it with a name you can pull up and rename every time you use that template or file to make a new track. That way you can just focus on music. It's especially helpfull if you have a lot of routing going on with external gear.

the chair is extremely important. This summer I had trouble getting into a groove. Didn't know what my problem was until i moved a different chair in the studio.

Have a penchant 4 good looking bathrooms. Doesn't matter where. If ur bathroom's nice, i'll try 2 hook up something small in there like a Groovebox or even jus sit in the empty tub with a guitar. And if one can rehearse up in there, even better.

I've never really found it that difficult to get into a session. When I'm working with my production partner, a pizza and beer always helps to loosen up after work.

I always start with a good cup of coffie. and a bright room works for me. I had painted walls black once and all the music I did was very dark and moody slash your wrist kinda of shyt. so I need sun. i get inspired by life

My studio Is dimly lit with colored lites, a 42 inch black lite, 2 lava lamps and a Eye of The Storm. I only use these items when I'm working alone it somewhats sets the mood for being in a club. But if I'm recording vocals I keep regular lighting on unless the artist request something differnt. I also burn candles or incense never any cancer sticks or drugs are allowed.

A space for getting down in the studio is a pre-requisite. We (my partner & i) know the track ain't going nowhere if both of us ain't dancing 2 it 4 longer than 10 mins 2getha in that space.

Bike rides @ nite, 'specially down inclines in traffic r kool 4 loosening up staid energy 2. And the adrenaline rush is legal. The trick is 2 navigate ur way down that piece without braking ;)
