    Marshall Jefferson-Move your body

Mixed by the late Ron Hardy.

I played a private affair a few weeks ago.I was playing all kinds of shit.I had an old high school buddy there and she wanted to hear some classic house, instead of the deep house and disco I was playing.

I went into a classic set and when I threw this on,the place went fuckin apeshit...and it sounded great.I played it beyond the piano break, which most folks don't these days.

I just had a flashback of how this song was the shit, the summer of 86...

I know it's played out to many here, but you can't deny the power of this song...and other classics.

Jamie just like any other genre of music we call some music classics for a reason they were and always will be hits. What I am seeing so far as a newbie on the house scene today is that we get so busy trying to impress people with what music we have to play that no one else has or don't play and we say things like I am not playing that old s**t and we forget thats its the people we play for that make us the dj;s we are and we are never above the classics and should always rememeber to throw a few in every now and then for the people that love house from the beginning to the present....just my newbie 2 cents worth...lol
Get to know me now so that one day you can say yeah I knew him back then......

I play it once a year at the Christmas party for the gig, people go crazy, I think this is a cut that is so nostalgic for most. I can still remember picking my copy up from JR's in the plaza......

Black and White Trax Record......most of my buddies had the red and white label, I bought two of them cause I love the dub on the flip..

that part "you got to move your body yeahhh" is still insane to me, what a timeless joint......

man...i can never get tired of talking about this record. i would have laid off of this thread to keep from boring the board but j said the 'crowd went apeshit' and i got an instant flashback.
to those that can relate, hearing that song at lower wacker drive, in it's pre-mainstream days in '86 when we called it 'rock yo body' and had no clue who'd made it(people would lie though)...oh my god...ron would run that shit twice a night/morning....the energy(and i hate that overused word but i'll use it here), the slamdancing, the fights, the smell, the lights, the wave of people running from the coolout room to the dance room once they heard the 'tss, tss, tss, tss', squeezing through that little hallway, the screaming, the fights, the yelling, the fights. multiple fights y'all. avery and 'em breaking up the fights. niggas on drugs dancing and fighting, the williwear prints moving with the strobe...ronnie up there grooving with a cool about himself and working that crossover to that song. one night he brought the 'carwash' break into it, let it ride solo for a minute and then went BACK to rock yo body...the crowd went even more 'apeshit'. again at that time i/we did not know who'd made that song let alone have the record. people i've said this before (and this is just my opinion mind you), that was the only cat(ron) and only place(music box) for that record. it never sounded quite right played elsewhere by anyone other than him...that includes frankie, etc..

On any given Saturday night, you had 5 or 6 DJs on the Bill, at LaMirage. All of em would play the damn track-back to back. BMX and KKC, mixes, included it-back to back. As if that wasn't enough overkill, the hook was sampled to death, on many preceding tracks.

I wish I could share your nostalgia for this track, but I can't. I could get through the rest of my life, without hearing it, again.

Although it has been played to death I still love this joint. Personally I like playing the DJ International version:

Mint green 1978 Olds Delta 88 with trues and vouges, 4-8" jbl's across the back window with the hk ( harmon kardon) amps in trunk. I played that song so much in my car that when I hear that song ,that ride, my first car, comes to mind. I still hear it but rarely, if ever lately, out. I could imagine the ape shit moment that followed! LOL

    Thread of the week
"...there is no question that the Internet at large is the biggest, baddest collection of bullshit users, clueless n00bs, annoying trolls, and the most colossal waste of time, bandwidth and money the world has ever known. It dwarfs anythings else in the idiotic department by a factor of one million, if not more..." - FK
