It's not about filling a void. Nobody can replace or replicate The Shelter.
The scene is also very different now to 10 years ago.

The nightclub biz is constantly evolving and I'm sure other events will come along very soon!
My first sentence makes it clear that I do not know anything about the status of Shelter. I'm only just speculating like almost everyone else who has been commenting about the status about Shelter these past few months and those few who know anything is not being forthcoming.

As for filling the void I'm just saying I'm surprised that nobody is making a grab at Shelter's crowd. It may not be a substitute for Shelter but I'm surprised that nobody sees that opportunity.

Funny part is i use to go to their parties every now and then when it was at SOL lol so i guess the rules for the party has change.

On a side not this was MADE IN ITALY party not exactly a Greenhouse event but rented out to this promotion group. So who knows.
with this new club is a dress your best kinda enviorment, I sold Advanced Audio group, the company that did the system, Thrive Audio Processing for the system, and I was in the room last wed for the soft opening and it was def a VERY dressed up crowd. Jeans tshirt or tank top aint gunna fly here, or at least at 1st on the list or not.

So that is prob why they turned you away

WOW heres and email i got from DJ DOVE sent out thru one of his mailers. Guess i wasnt the only one having problems at the door. And for the record i didnt bring it up with him at all cause i def know its not his fault.

    DJ DOVE's words

USUALLY I'M IN GOOD SPIRITS IN WRITING MY E-MAILS BUT FIRST I WOULD LIKE TO
EXPRESS MY DISPLEASURE ABOUT WHAT HAS BECOME "THE NO FUN SCENE". LAST
FRIDAY AT GREENHOUSE, OR TO BE MORE APPROPRIATELY CALLED "SHITHOUSE", MYSELF
AND MADE IN ITALY NYC WERE MISTREATED AND MISLEAD THEREFORE BEING TREATED
LIKE COMMON TRASH. THE GREENHOUSE STAFF WAS STAND-OFFish, RUDE, AND
UNINVITING LIKE A GOOD NUMBER OF THESE BOTTLE SERVICE SPOTS ARE THESE DAYS.
BECAUSE OF THIS IT LED TO A LOT OF GRIEF AND A LOT OF CRAP THAT SHOULDN'T
HAVE HAPPENED LEADING TO ME LOSING MY TEMPER NOT TO GET INTO TOO MUCH
    DETAIL.

I HAVE IT TOUGH AS IT IS BEING A DJ/PRODUCER OF COLOR AND CLASS NOT GETTING
ENOUGH RESPECT NOR WORK IN THE BOTTLE SERVICE SCENE WHICH IS WHY I THANK GOD
EVERYDAY FOR MADE IN ITALY NYC, THE LE SOUK FAMILY, CELLAR BAR, ROB
PROMOTIONS AND OTHERS WHOM LOOK PASSED THAT AND GIVE ME THE RESPECT AND
CHANCES I DESERVE. LAST FRIDAY WAS INDEED A TRAVESTY AND A DISGRACE TO OUR
HOUSE SCENE. AND TO TOP OFF THE MOST MISERABLE NIGHT OF MY LIFE I GET
KICKED WHILE I'M DOWN BY CERTAIN FRIENDS OF MINE, WHICH I WILL LEAVE
NAMELESS BECAUSE THEY KNOW PERFECTLY WELL WHO THEY ARE, BLAMING ME FOR THE
CLUB'S ACTIONS CAUSING THEM NOT TO SPEAK TO ME ANYMORE. PERSONALLY THAT'S
HURTFUL AND IT SUCKS!!! WHENEVER I HAVE PROBLEMS IN NIGHTCLUB, WHICH
HAPPENS ONCE IN A WHILE, I FIGHT FOR MY PEOPLE AND FOR WHAT I BELIEVE IN.

IT PAINS ME TO SEE AT THESE NIGHTCLUBS WOMEN NOT BEING ALLOWED IN BECAUSE
THEY'RE NOT A SIZE 4, NOT PRETTY ENOUGH, OR BEING LOOKED AT UP AND DOWN
BECAUSE NEITHER HIM OR HER DON'T LOOK THE PART WHICH IS A FUCKIN' JOKE!!!!
DOOR POLICIES IN THESE CLUBS ARE DISCRIMINATING AND NOT REALISTIC SO TO YOU
CLUB OWNERS, MANAGERS AND DOOR STAFF OUT THERE....."YOU NEED TO BUY A CLUE
AND GET A DOSE OF REALITY NOT TO MENTION "WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND CUZ
KARMA IS A BITCH!!!" DON'T TREAT ANYONE BADLY THAT YOU WOULDN'T WANT THE
SAME TO BE DONE TO YOUR FAMILY MEMBER(S) OR MATE IN THAT WAY. IT'S
WRONG!!!" WE DJs NEED OUR SUPPORT SYSTEM WHEN WE PLAY TOO AND NOT JUST THE
CLUBS. AS FOR CLUBS LIKE GREENHOUSE, PEOPLE I ADVISE YOU TO AVOID ANY TENSE
OR EMBARRASSING MOMENTS BY NOT GOING THERE AND GIVING THEM YOUR
    MONEY......YOU'LL THANK ME LATER.

Why are people saying the shelter won't return there. If you're on their email list you must have gotten the email that was even forwarded here about them still being there. Remember the Shelter party will continue soon starting at 4am. They're still the lease holder.(at least that's what the email said).

If anyone is missing the Shelter. I have a suggestion for a party in Bmore coming in Jan.(I believe) at Baltimore's Paradox. Ultra Nate is giving a bus trip from NYC to Bmore and having some of the Shelter dj's play at her party. I don't have all the details but I saw details in an email a few weeks ago.

I got reviews from a few people. Most of them got in - black and white. Shit was hectic. What a surprise - it was a first week, opening nite event, in NYC.

Reminds me of the first nite Shelter opened at that spot

The most relevant commentary in this thread has been provided by Myron:

"I'm surprised that no promoter has yet to use Shelter's absence as an opportunity to fill the void. Instead of waiting for Shelter's return why don't some promoter take the opportunity to create a party that fills its void?"

lets see how many productive responses (and actions) that statement spawns

    Define Opportunity

Do you mean opportunity to merely shift a number of people that used to arrive at A, over to B? ... then I'd agree with you that it's suprising.

... or are you saying "opportunity" in more of a business sense?

If the latter, I would argue that there is no/little opportunity ... given that the 'peak-arrival-time' of the average Shelter paton is 8am on a Sunday, and is a non-liquor-consuming person -- that segment of the nightclub population is not in anyone's target market, other than a 7-11 Franchiser or Diner.

All respect to Shelter, but until its crowd patronizes an establishment during normal nightclub business hours (10pm-4am), IMHO they will be waiting around for the original Shelter promoters/producers to resume the party for them.

One could acquire a space and bring that crowd in

Unfortunately that entails risk; an idea foreign to the mindset of "put me down?"

Silverbull - this letter from Dove is a joke ( but I can understand his need to pacify "the keep it real" crowd)

    exactly

better not let that letter get out there to anyone other than the Kool-Aid drinkers

that "hard to get a job as a dj of color in the bottle service clubs" is straight tripe. There are plenty; the most noteworthy being DJ Reach who parlayed his slots into a gig on the Carson Daly show
