I kinda wish it could all be called 'dance' music and left at that. Fuck trying to categorize this and label that. Whether it's 'soulful', 'deep', 'acid', 'techno', 'drum and bass', etc....it simply does not matter. IMO, all that matters is 'are the people dancing?' and 'am I feeling what I'm playing?'

I'll admit; I fed into that 'soulful' thing for a minute until I thought about it. I started to exclude/ignore music that I didn't consider 'soulful' even though I'd be diggin what I was hearing. I was depriving myself of what I considered good music for the sake of adhering to some bullshit label.

    'deep' - same as above
'techno'- Guidos, Fake boobs, Glow Sticks, Cocaine, Extacy, Pretentiousness, $$$$
'drum and bass' - Glow Sticks, Grundge look, more of the rock crowd

I wouldn't consider "Spastik" soulful...more of a headfuck coming out of the speakers after your second blunt. But whatever.

Add "You Were My Sunshine" by Underwolves, "Atlantis" by LTJ Bukem, the entire "Time and Bass" album by Future Loop Foundation and A Guy Called Gerald's "Black Secret Technology" to the list for me, would ya?

you can buy in to these ridiculous stereotypes for the sake of convenience
or you can rise above it
    which do you choose?

P.S. if you think drugs like cocaine and ecstasy are not found at your soulful screaming house parties you are sadly mistaken

Forget the crowds. If an 'elektro', 'techno', or 'drum and bass' track is making your 'soulful' crowd dance their asses off, that ain't the time to be 'educating' them on what 'soulful' house is. Obviously, they don't care.

As I say earlier. I go to Pacha, Mansion, etc all the time. I go to rock clubs, check out some drum n bass nights, and dance to techno as if no ones watching.. This is not black and white. I actually like the fact that "deep house" of all the others is the most MIXED. it is common sense and business.

If you put MONEY into a night, you better know WHO YOUR CROWD IS.. and you better PLAY FOR THEM. Gee I never heard Drum N Bass at Sullivan Room at libation.. I guess Ian Friday is not open minded?

I love how on message boards everyone lives in a perfect world.. then come friday night.. you know where you're going.

have you ever actually been to shelter? no 'techno' records? you can find youtube clips of cuts being played at shelter that someone would technically consider 'techno'...on techno labels and listed as techno in the stores...but that's the beauty...mixing it up...

someone like yourself would diss a certain record, then hear timmy play it and run looking for it...and find its some 'techno' record...
