    DIY: Custom Home/Studio DJ Console

Hey guys/gals. I've received a bunch of inquiries about this DIY I posted in few different spots a while back. I don't know if this is the appropriate section of this forum to post it here, but it looked to be the most relevant because it's gear. I looked around and all I found here was labeled "Producer Corner" and not DJs, so I apologize if it's in the wrong spot and mods/admin please relocate if needed. Thanks.

Hidden storage area in center with adjustable adjustable shelves, adjustable European hinges, magnetic pressure latch on flush door, wire management channel in front, and a power conditioner/multi-port outlet in bottom cavity. Storage for basic DJing tools all readily accessible such as a Rane/Serato SL1 interface (seen in back of top shelf), GruvGlide, CueStick, turntable clamps, extra headshells, cartridges, styli, etc.

    feelin it!

just a thought... you know what would be real cool.... is if the space where you put your records can pull out like a big drawer. the weight will def be heavy due to all the records...but that sure would be nice to just pull out the drawer, pull your record and have it right there to the left of right of you.

    Glad you dig drilla.

I hear what you're saying about drawers, that could be cool and I actually had drawn that in one of the preliminary designs, but decided against it for a couple reasons (although weight wasn't an issue because the console has four heavy duty casters and it stays in one house). Reason #1 was that if there was a drawer pulled out during mixing, it would require the user to stand back away from the console and have to lean/reach over to touch the decks/mixer. Drawers would basically just be in the way during use on this particular setup and how I use it. I've had vinyl in separate drawers before and didn't like them. The idea of opening/closing drawers on the console sounded fussy and wasn't appealing. Reason #2 was that the records stored in those cubbies are mostly reserves/archives/doubles and access to them isn't real critical. The bulk of my vinyl sits behind me on shelving that's real easy to get to (pic below). Besides, whenever I go to do a set, I usually just pull a bunch of stuff I'm going to use for that session and drop them in an open crate.

If someone did want to go the drawer route though, this design could easily be converted to accommodate that.

    I like this very much.

Are you an architect, carpenter (with good drafting skills) or and engineer?

    nice clean stuff.

Would you ever custom design something to specific needs? I need something that intergrates both a Dj console and a workstation for Logic and Final Cut in a relatively tight space.
