Russell’s first DJ experiences started at the very young age of 10 playing classic house, soul and hip hop at youth club disco’s, getting up in front of a crowd at such a young age fueled Russell’s confidence for what he was dreaming about pursuing as a career. Moving on in 1993 Russell was fortunate enough to land himself with a Saturday job as a studio manager answering the phone’s for the legendary Freedom FM, Brighton’s first legal dance station, this is where Russell really began to gain some good experience about the industry and meet other like minded people.
In 1995 Russell worked for DFM 101.4, this time his role was a lot more involved, he did everything from help build the studio to engineer outside broadcasts and he was also lucky enough to have his own show giving him the exposure he needed to begin his quest as a DJ. At DFM Russell was working alongside the like’s of Marshall Jefferson, Dave Clark, Rob Blake, Norman Cook & The Ragga Twins to name but a few, from here on Russell began to secure gig’s playing at various venues around Brighton & Hove.
Growing up as a teenager in the early nineties Russell was heavily influenced musically by the likes of Bobby & Steve, Tony Humphries, Joey Negro and his biggest inspiration Paul Trouble Anderson. In July 2007 Russell located himself in Bournemouth for just over a year where he was working on a number of different projects including promoting Get Spinny & Ultra Phunk Delite he was also playing at Havana’s, One Seven Six & The Bazaar Bar, during this time he also made trips to London to play for Bar 54 and heygorgeous. While in Bournemouth Russell was taken on board as a resident DJ and co promoter for one of the south coast biggest soulful house brands God Made Me Funky.
In August 2007 Russell & God Made Me Funky headman Paul Horne aka De Hornet presented a weekly Saturday morning radio show on local station Deep Blue FM. Following on from the success of the radio show Russell collaborated once again with God Made Me Funky this time promoting a boat party followed by an all night after party in Bournemouth where Russell had the pleasure in booking The Legendary Paul Trouble Anderson & Sy Sez of the Fanatix and the Aphrodisiax.
Not only is Russell a remarkably talented DJ with an exquisite taste in house music but he has also proved himself to be a successful promoter too. Russell is really beginning to make movements in the world of soulful house and has quite a following in Brighton, London and Bournemouth as well as becoming known for his popular mixes, podcasts and radio shows in other parts of the world. Russell has an extensive knowledge and a massive passion & confidence for the music he plays and with his unique blend of uplifting soulful house he always creates a great atmosphere and has everyone up on the floor.
