How to turn a movie on my computer into a DVD I can watch on my TV

Ok, lets say I have somehow 'obtained' some first run movie's on my computer. 800-1400mb size (which I assume is high quality). The files are .avi.

Is it possible to burn these onto a DVD and watch them on a normal DVD player? How will the quality be?

Get the software VSO ConvertXtoDVD it converts Divx/Xvid and all types to DVD files.

    Heres the link http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/

Yes you can create a standard DVD from a .avi file. There are probably lots of free ones out there but I use Nero.

Go over to http://www.videohelp.com/ and enlighten yourself. My opinion though is that it's not worth it, too time consuming.

Some dvd players play various codecs contained by the avi-container so if your lucky you could burn the file straight to a dvd and watch it on your player without any conversions needed. I think there's a list on videohelp for which one's will do.

Another shortcut would be if you have tv-out on your computers gfx card. In that case you could just hook your computer to your tv and run the movies instantly from your computer via your tv screen.

Nero works on regular avi files but it doesnt like to play nice with lot of bootleg movies, I think its because of the codecs.
Disk Ole, it only takes an hour to convert a 2 hour movie.
