If you have the time...it's loooong...lol...lots of good opinions both ways there tho.

Don't have the time to find specific cases about smoking being healthy right now so I suggest you Google "Smoking is healthy" and see what you find.

An example I read is that Indians have been smoking Tobacco for 4000 years, and one of the reasons was to avoid colds.

Another interesting thing is that people are dying of cancer because of the after fx of nuclear missile test bombings. The US alone have tested thousands of missiles.

To each his/her own at the end of the day. Personally I don't believe that smoking is that dangerous, and I don't believe the scare tactics of the media, but that's just me.

Just a case in point- I almost NEVER get colds/sick either. I also heal from potential sports injuries quickly, and on my own. Soooo I don't know about that theory(as it was expressed before).

It's totally specious to attack Ras for driving or riding in cars -- cars have utility. Yes, they're dangerous, and emit toxic chemicals. But they do a lot of good. What good does smoking do, other than go nice with a pint at dusk on a hot August evening....

P.S. I burned a hole in some dude's red shaker-knit sweater on the dancefloor of Shelter in 2002. Sorry about that, I was cooked.

Could you even find it within yourself to support the theory behind fighting 'one thing at a time'?

Simply put, these people CANNOT exercise any restraint. You (smokers) express theories of displacement- blame the 'messenger' instead of the PROBLEM. They (smokers) are going down, and don't give a flying freak about bringing others down with them. For that I will always and have been heated.
You can't seem to see the forest for the trees. You are effectively complaining about someone getting you wet while splashing you in a pool. Smog has nothing to do with tobacco, but seems to be a bigger environmental issue to deal with. Have you bothered to look at the buildings, buses, trucks, and taxis in the city? That soot buildup you see is what you breathe every day. Why are you sweating over smokers?

Smoking is not the problem. Intrusion into people's lives and restriction of personal choices is the problem, which you can't seem to help to exacerbate enough. is it a nasty habit, sure. It's also heavily taxed, so if society is going to pay for soceity smoking, let it be done that way, and let private businesses decide their own policies to what happens in their establishments. If you want to make it illegal, read up on how well alcohol prohibition worked out or how well the illegalization of other substances is helping communities at large.

What will you say when the govt restricts the volume on you because it is damaging peoples hearing? It's always been to loud, save perhaps mancuso's parties.

RAS, why weren't you complaining about the volume? it was probably loud enough to cause hearing damage, as the levels needed for people to enjoy the music are typically already louder than the ears were designed for over the average amount of time spent at a party. Tinnitus can cause people to commit suicide, and hearing loss can obviously keep people from noticing traffic.

Or the alcohol? It might impair someone's judgement?

Do you drive? Do you take taxis? Do you ever fly? Do you consume any power from coal power plants? Do you eat foods containing corn syrup? Why not be outraged that americas food supply is essentially poisoning everyone? No, you are simply fucking up an event in a private venue.

Since when was staying up all night in dark rooms listening to loud music supposed to be healthy? Adults make the decision, and adults used to have teh option of choosing for themselves of opening or patronizing a smoking or non-smoking establishment.

I sincerely hope that bouncers across the city will receive word to customarily deny you entrance to any parties for being such a wanker.
The law says no smoking. If you smoke inside a club, you are breaking the law and endangering the health of others.
Now I wouldn't call 311 on people in the club, but I understand where RAS is coming from. Smoking inside a club in NY is not only inappropriate, but illegal. If RAS wants to enforce something the patrons and management won't, who are we to complain?

If you smoke illegally in a club around firefighters and soldiers, they will bitch if they don't whoop your ass first because are viewed as abiding by and protecting the law.

please, plenty of firefighters and soldiers smoke.

i know doctors that will have the occasional cigarette when they go to a party.

what will you do when the law says you can't amplify music louder than 80db?
