has anyone heard this compilation and/or any of the singles from this label? any recommendations? thanks in advance....

    from dustygroove.com

lost collection of rare disco work -- featuring 7 tracks recorded for the tiny Tyson Records label in New York! The tracks were all arranged by Patrick Adams, and the feel here is very similar to the best titles on Adams legendary P&P Records at the same time -- a unique blend of soul, funk, and some of the rougher club rhythms that were hitting the underground scene during the mid and late 70s. Most of the cuts have lead vocals by female singers, and titles include "You're So Good", "Wait Wait", and "Stop The Taxi" by Lonzine Wright; "Cool It" by The Paper Dolls; "You've Been Hunchin All Night" by Catherine Miller; and "You Waited Too Late" by Kimbra Trio.

Kelvy, I saw this a couple days ago too. I have a couple singles on Tyson records. The "Stop The Taxi" one which is listed, in my opinion SUCKS! but I have another single on Tyson by Paper Doll called "its gitin to be cornbread time" which is pretty good. A friend of mine had a single for "you've been hunchin'" by La She Ba, which wasn't on Tyson, but one of the other labels, I think it was Heavenly Star...It sounded alot like Paper Doll, but not as good....I only mention that one because it looks like there is a different version of the song on the CD, this one by Cathrine Miller...
So I don't know what to think, even though that Taxi song sucks there has probablly got to be a few good tunes on there?????
    Peace,
    klas

Klas, the dustygroove post only mentions six out of the seven titles..i wonder if the cornbread song is there? i guess it still may be worth shelling out ten dollars plus shipping because there must be at least 2-3 good songs in there...

thanks for your input Klas, i really appreciate it and may your weekend be a good one!

Stop the Taxi does indeed suck, but the other Lonzine track on there is a wicked piece of boogie action. Very rare and in demand.

That "girl" top left - very attractive.

There are some real nice boogie/disco cuts. There is another cut by Lonzie Wright called "wait, wait" which is pretty cool. "Cool It" by Paper Dolls is also pretty cool! I was supprised that this one had an almost Italo sound to it, I would love to know if there is an instrumental version of this cut(Al, do you know??). The last couple of cuts are less desireable IMO, sparse drum programing in an 80's fashion similar to the "taxi" song...but whatever there are still some gems on this comp.

Hey Al, you got any Lonnie records?? are these assoc. w/ the SONY family of labels?

Best Friend Around "So Good to know" is all I got on the label. There's another by Foster Jackson that I know of, but haven't heard yet. Best Friend Around is pretty awesome - get one!!
