I think he should at least finish his senior year, but I also think that if he has the opportunity why not take it. If I were his parents, I'd be moving overseas with him.

I'm thinking we are going to start seeing a lot of high school ball players take this route by passing up college and going overseas to play ball and make some money...I think they should until the NCAA changes their rules, which in my opinion are ancient and negatively effect underprivileged ball players.

Intersting, I thought it would be more negative feedback than anything. Thanks to those who have responded so far.
In this case, I think that the kid is doing the right thing as well![]()

I've been harping about this for years on this board, it's been LONG time for these youngsters to take their careers into their own hands and not the NCAA-ESPN gravy train who continually make billions off of their labor and when somebody (that ESPN/ NCAA doesn't approve of) buys them a suit or a pizza, it's the end of civilization......if you want to go to school, then go, but that should be a choice....not you are mandated to go but that rule by the NBA (only to throw a bone to the NCAA) to stay in school one year is bullshit
And if anybody wants to make a argument about graduation, check out the NCAA graduation rates
If you want to make an argument about basketball, the ball overseas is FAR better than college ball

He sounds like he has a good plan and I'm sure we will be hearing about him in two years. I'm not a fan of the NCAA system for the reasons Fred brings up- i believe that any money directly generated by a college athlete (such as jersey sales) should be put into a trust fund they can access after completing their degree- but college is a valuable time as far as allowing kids to develop the emotional maturity, social skills and business sense they will need as multi-millionaire pro athletes in the spotlight. It's a time to develop perspective and widen horizons, which can help when it comes time for planning a career after basketball. Getting a degree later doesn't really do the same thing.
The good thing for this kid is that going to Europe might provide the same real-life learning experience that going to college here would otherwise do.

Fred, you know how I feel about this!
FYI.....Brandon Jennings had cultural adjustment problems, and, more importantly, the team wasn't always paying him on time!!!!!!!!
Where will this end???????????????????
Oh, Fred, I'm putting up another "Is this whatcha want?" thread. Watch for it!

How many are prepared for the workforce, or college, or living on their own...it's a learning process...still, I believe that when you make the leap, you have to deal with the things that come with it. I heard they do not pay on time, but, you have to be patient and deal with the way they do business over there...that;s the price you pay for not going to college that 1 year and entering the draft, versus going straight overseas...

High school sports is controlled by professional athletic leagues and sporting goods companies. Two NFL players came out of Danny Jr.'s program. They have him in workouts already for next season.
I told him I'm checking for needle marks and putting him through random testing starting this summer.
No bullshit. Its that damned deep in H.S. sports now. Scares me to death.

Call me old-school, but I still see the value of a good education. But I also see how these kids don't want to be pimped by the current NCAA system. For the life of me, I still will never understand why they don't provide these kids with a stipend. Football and basketball alone makes these schools billions of dollars every year. It is a shame that they don't do more for the athletes.
