Whats all this about racism at Webster hall

After Sting posted his statement on his facebook page, I was hit with other reports of racism at Webster hall in other events. There were even testimonials in which it was said this was being enforced by Bouncers of color. I know this is possible because I've walked off more than one job after being told not to allow certain people in due to their ethnicity (hell I hated deny access to anyone because of a certain "look").

Bruh you make a good point, especially when "your own" wants a "comp" everytime they enter the club and then sneak out to go to the corner store for water, gatorade, redbull etc and also coupled with the fact you only have an average of 50 heads patronizing a very large space. I expect the owners were watching how cheap some of us "Heads" can be. And I'm sorry NY/NJ peeps but you know some of us (not all) are some cheap mofos.

Can you imagine the overhead? Ie. Electricty, employees pay etc

I dont doubt Webstar Hall has some racist shit with them as I heard stories from back in da day- thats why I dont go there but we have to look at ourselves also.....

Y'all know damn well there are spots that don't want our asses up in there unless it is in limited amount..EVEN if the DJ is black..Here in Chicago there are NUMEROUS establishments that start getting shady when the party becomes too black..As if..

Let's NOT act like this doesn't happen because it does...It's ok if there are a token few of us but when the party become overwhelmingly black the owner wants to switch shit up.."Oh, we think we wanna go in another direction"...

Shit, that's the reason the underground here even got started in the first place..The white clubs were not having our asses so we started our own shit..

I wonder what's up with the Sunday Shoutin party now. Granted it's only once a month and about 10% less black but I haven't seen any flyers for the next gathering there yet. I heard the sound system in the room was removed too. I don't mean to start any rumors but I'm a tad concerned.

I'm seeing some things that don't make sense. A month ago they let Barbara Tucker throw her huge party in the main ballroom where it was free before midnight (and packed at 11) and now they're complaining when sunDAY parties are being thrown charging $20?

Rich both you and Jamie are right (in my experience). There are some clubs that do that but Jamie is also correct that sometimes we jump to that conclusion when it may not be warranted. If it happens once then it may not be an issue. If there is a pattern of this then you know what time it is.

I'm sorry but I feel I need to say something here in the club's defense.

I have worked with WH for a number of years now and have NEVER! witnessed any kind of racial discrimination at all. Not once have I ever seen them refuse entry to anybody unless they were drunk/stoned/unruly or just under age. 99% of their staff are either Black or Latino and have always been professional and courteous.

There is a Facebook page entitled "Boycott Webster Hall" that was started in January 2009 by a young lady that was refused entry. She then decided to start a boycott page and turn it into a race thing. The club told me that both she and others that night were clearly under the influence and for that reason alone they were refused entry.

I can only call it as I see it and though I will not speak for other promoters/DJ's or events, I do not feel the racist accusations are fair.

Webster Hall thought they could make a buck, plain and simple. If they had then this thread might be moot. Wasn't no love lost or given to the people throwing or supporting the party.

Not disagreeing with your statements, because they are true.Yet,there also will be cries of racism when shit don't go right with an event...which I still say is bullshit.

I've experienced being in places wherer I knew we weren't really welcome and I have also experienced clubs that don't want us there, until the money gets tight for them, then it's an urban event there.

I personally don't patronize those spots, cause now that ya hurtin, you want my black ass in,when I couldn't get in before???Some folks still go to those places, even thought they got treated shitty, just to say they were there.
