folks are still missing the point here. That Party in that place was destine to fail (have a short run). History show that that party was not going to last no more than 6 weeks in that spot (check and see when they opened there)...and we not even talking long term history (which is what I based my timetable) but if you look at the recent "soulful" house parties that were there, they were all short term engagement.
This is not a "I told you so" post, because I told a few people privately that that party will be over at Webster Hall by the 2nd week of May...I could not say this publically because I would have been labelled a hater and all (some may think I am, but that's not the point), but I had history on my side....that's how Those clubs operate. If Palladuium or Roxy was open, it would have been the same shit. You stand a better chance at a longer run in a smaller club (Cielo, etc).
We have to learn from history. We also have to remember history. After Garage closed we ran from party to party in various different venues. It would be the same party (House Nation, Wild Pitch, Abushia, AfterLife, for example) but in different venues...all for 4-6 week stretch. sheeeeit, sometimes we wouldn't find out until the night of the party that the party moved to a new venue.
Then Shelter came along at Hubert Street. SHELTER is the only party that have came along and stayed in the same venue, only doing their party weekly, for years on end, since the Garage and those other underground clubs (in NYC). I remember folks not even believing that SHELTER was actually a long term venue and could not believe that here is a club that actually cater to us and our idiosyncrasies(crazy ass behavior)....So then we got spoil. We got spoil to thinking the party and the space is the same, when we should be thinking the party is the entity and the space is where the party takes place.
I wish Sting and Freddy luck, and I hope they come they recognize that it is not all about the space, but about the party. Get back to basic....find a spot, do the parties for 4-6 weeks, if it doesn't work out, find another spot and keep it moving...and no more "fuck them they ain't shit" press releases....that shit can get y'all sue for slander and the inner business of y'all's business is nobody's business but your own.
keep on...

I Really wish Freddy, Sting and Timmy would come to terms and work out their differences.
Those 3 together can be a powerful force, but until then the Shelter family will always be divided![]()
The art of living is more like wrestling than dancing.
Ray, Better Days had a very long tenure in New York too my man(1972-1988), Also, Even though Bentley's was a commercial spot, Bentley's stayed on the dance music circuit for 20 years(1980 to 2000), Though, Kevin Woodley(Dj Sugar Daddy), Was mixing in a commercial spot like Bentley's, Kevin Woodley was not a comermcial Dj(Cats who remember Kevin Woodley for mixing at a spot called Gotham's during the early/mid 80's, Will confirm
This/LOL), Ray Do you feel, There would have been static with the throwdown that Sting and Freddy Sanon had at Webster Hall, At a spot like Bonds International(Which featured cats like Kenny Carpenter,Tony Humphries,Etc, Mixing during the early/mid 80's), Ray, I ask this question in regards to your previous thread, Where you mentioned the Palladium and The Roxy.
Much Respect

Mike you are talking different times in club history. I believe the club landscape has changed since 1992 in NYC. All the clubs you mention except Bentley, had been closed by 1992 and the business of clubs started to evolve . Most clubs back in the days would be open for the weekend only and there was no bottle service and the rents were cheaper. Most of these clubs were also in the most undesirable parts of town or in Commercial areas only.
when a big ass club like Bonds was around, it was the hay day of our scene and the place was packed. Today, if that club was around, they would be flipping parties and promoters like the rest of the big clubs looking for whatever worked.
We are living in a different age and time and folks still want to act like it's 1981...and want to pay the same entry fees too!!!
