i thought it was jd who brokered the deal. in any case sleeping with the proverbial enemy has always been a survival tactic. hubert st had its own story to tell. i don't think any business the black kind has not experienced or endured some form of racism. i think it's even expected.
i agree. emotions run amuck.why did so many of their supporters openly dis the Varick street events (organized by the black Timmy Regisford and his staff)? on the streets and on this board (notice how those same mofoes been as quiet as church mice lately)
money is green not black or white?why did they endorse racists by leaving a sound system up set up for the use of racists?
i agree but again the middleman in all of this, mangina, may have been a buffer where promised land felt more secure about the whole deal since there was an already established party (the sort of black kind maybe the mulatto kind?) happening where there was definite cross pollination between the two events.I'm no cool headed wordsmith and I'll openly state that I never experienced any racism when dealing w this management team. They just wanted to make money.
those who know me know my word is money
Losers lose - and then blame everyone else except themselves.
Folks should be thanking Webster Hall for the opportunity, because folk like myself wouldnt have been so foolish as to let this event in there in the first place.
"We're not just dancing to have fun-we're dancing for survival. We're dancing to save our lives." PTT
I got turned away at Webster Hall by some big Annie Lennox looking she-man in like 1994... racist bastards!
What happens at Webster Hall boils down to the stealth and subtle way racism permeates the nightlife landscape and it happens from New York to Paris to the Dominican Republic to Montreal wherever. As in the case of a club like Webster Hall visible minorities ARE allowed in the club All the time, it just a case of controlling HOW much. It's a Minority Quota Control mechanism put in place based on racial preconceptions and of course economics. So called racist clubs have black or hispanic bouncers to maintain this mechanism sprinkled with like wise employees to maintain that quasi diverse personnel to avoid any PR nightmare.Any establishment wanting to make money has that target clientele: the well heeled who spend $$$ and in most cases WHITE (That is the prevailing conception)When that fails and they start to go RED$$$ then they go BLACK.Which means they bring in minority promoters who tend to pack in EVERYBODY (from what I observed) regardless of color, in these cases there is sizable amount of blacks when the gats come out and mayhem ensues it is Game over plain and simple.Because of a few oxygen deprived knuckleheads clubs will always operate this way and the belief that Blacks don't patronize a bar as Whites do doesn't help. One can imagine what the grand opening of the Palladium or Limelight they were probably among of the most racist nights in New York nightlife history.(I know this a over the top assertion but somewhat true)

New York is a racist fucking place, and quite frankly club owners understand their fickle patrons (white) can have racist ideals and may simply not want to party with negros. I think we tend to think that feel good events like clubs and parties are devoid of racism cause House is being played and everyone wants to have a good time after a long week. Wed be stupid to think the same mentaility that permeated the Ny Cab industry and was so pervasive couldnt invade the club world. Remember cab drivers stating that they dont pick up blacks cause negros just dont tip and could even rob you in the process. They just came out and said it, no bullshit lying and evading, they didnt hide their feelings. Theyre in business and black folk they percieve can be bad for business. And for many people, you never want to imagine your industry as being prejudiced, whether its engineering, medicine, teaching or clubbing. You always have to stand up and defend it though you yourself can see elements of it. I dont know shit about Webster Hall, but Ive been to enough nightspots to see it. Ever been to a Latino night on thursdays and you and your boy are the only blacks there, somehow you dont get a sense of the everyday love and commaraderie. Only time people are cool partying up a storm with blacks is if they go there knowing its a black club to begin with, rather than a when a bunch of darkies come through the door. If restaurants can be racist what the fuck makes you think clubs are impartial.
