The D is silent..
Djinji Brown's musical roots run deep. Spending his youth in Jazz clubs around the globe as he travelled the world with his father - avantgarde saxophonist Marion Brown - it might be unsurprising that some of the talent would rub off. Djinji always drew his inspiration from a myriad of musical and artistic forms. He grew up in the Bronx at the time Hip Hop was born, absorbed the Salsa sounds through his mother's stereo and later on has been the frontman of Hard Rock formation Absolution. He got his first break apprenticing to Hip Hop producer Eric Sadler, and Djinji's first major solo project involved production duties on the debut from freestyle legend Supernatural. Over the years he worked with artists such as the Jungle Brothers, Fila Brazilia, DJ Smash, Eddie Brock, Bobbito or Asheru and remixed the likes of Air and Kahil El Zabar. Djinji never stopped studying different kinds of music and collating the apparent links and influences they share and draw from each other. This culminated in his debut release for NYC's Seven Heads imprint - covering Hip Hop, soulful House, and drawing from African, Latin, and Caribbean music, Djinji's 'Sirround Sound' was a diverse and interesting one. His 'Uncle Junior's Friday Fish Fry"'Mix CD was an expression of one of his core musical beliefs - that a good DJ is one whose ears take in from more than one genre. Most recently Djinji released some highly acclaimed singles on Osunlade's Yoruba label as well as on BBE/R2 Records.
