Quick anecdote: As a kid in 1st grade, another kid said I was black. I corrected him and showed him a crayon to explain that I was brown and that he was confused. My teacher Ms. Smith had a nice chuckle at that (as did my mom much later).

For intent and purpose, call me what you need to understand that I am a person of worth, but not late to dinner and you are golden in my book.

In regards to culprits, specific characters, and crime, sad to say, but race MUST be used as a descriptor. Otherwise humanity is too much of a hodgepodge to describe "human x" without using race to help cull the lot.

I have roots in Africa (as I also do from Cherokee blood and from Saltillo, Mexico), but I can only trace back to the Mexican and Native American roots, so I can't claim African as outright as most of my brethren (though both I and my complexion cannot NOR WILL NOT EVER deny it).

Even Alexander Pushkin, the Russian, can claim African roots (much disturbance happened over that revelation), so African- (fill in the blank) can be applied to MORE than just our darker-hued worldwide family.

Whats more important to me is that we can all recognise each other as Brothers and Sisters (as corny and preachy as that may sound). 'BLACK' people need to get over labels and start working together. White Americans are fascinated by Europeans and vice versa, thus allowing them to create an understanding based on similar origin and thus business opportunities open up. Black Americans are too busy trying to stay clear of anything 'African', to the point where it affects the money coming into Black America. Why dont Black American business people come and make millions across Africa, instead of all those opportunities going to whites?? Cause were all too busy trying to stay apart, thats why. We could run this world if we all worked together, no more bullshit.
As an African person from Botswana does it mean I cannot identify with a Black American because our culture is apparently so different??This is where the bullshit and divisions start If our blackness, in all its varying degrees is all we have in common after hundreds of years of brainwashing then at least we have a place to start.. Youre from Jamaica or Trinidad, but yet when you walk the streets of Namibia you look exactly like the natives. So why must you then pretend that you cant deal with them?
African blacks need to get off that 'were blacker than you all' mentality, and Western Blacks need to stop behaving like they smarter than other blacks, and South American Blacks need to stop thinking they Spanish or latin or whatever the fuck.

you also contradict yourself by saying in your previous post that we need to "get past labels" but yet turn around and say you aren't going to watch the video because you see the brother with a t-shirt labeled "Islam"...

Getting past labels as Blacks, yes. As you know some may refuse to recognize Obama cause hes not Full Blooded Black, but either way that sort of divisive thinking is holding us back and the money we should be earning as a collective. We're at the bottom of the food chain until we rectify that. It'll be hard, but its about survival now.
