Who's doing renegade parties these days? Setting up speakers in non-licensed spots

I'm bringing it up because I am doing something like this tonight, and I am wondering who else is bringing that type of shit these days.

Tonight we are doing a Thai Restaurant, clearing out the place, putting up curtains in the windows for privacy etc. bringing in some speakers, the decks, the whole nine yards, and we are going to get buck wild in there.

I feel like the heads in DC like Chris Burns and his people might do stuff like this, but I am not entirely sure. Chicago too? Maybe the Bring The Heat crew? Anyone in NYC do these types of one offs in strange locations anymore?

Good luck with the party. they are definitely in short supply anymore. They were doing some here in DC but people kept insisting on talking about them online and promoting them on message boards and typing out the addresses and making flyers and inviting press to write articles about them and then wondering why they kept getting shut down so quickly.

    Peace

no. kids these days are a complete fucking bore. wouldn't know a party if they parachuted into it and landed in the puch bowl full of ecstacy. i swear you gotta hang out with a bunch of middle aged folks to have good time anymore. so, so lame...

That Rubalad party in NYC was pretty off the wall a couple of years back.

Does anyone know if it is shut down?

Does No Ordinary Monkey in NYC still doing those things in Chinatown?

Richie call me if you need any advice/help. What Deesko is talking about happened 2 years and i learned my lessons quickly with that. Unfortunately when you wanna book the big guns, like the party I was involved with with Danny Krivit and Ron Trent, you HAVE to promote hard for that and bear that risk. Fortunately I was simply a promoter on that one which got shut down early and was just doing my job to get the word out as much as possible with 7 days notice. BTW, that 411 Ny Ave. spot is back up and running with full licenses and I will be doing things htere in the coming months.

Richie, the biggest piece of advice I can give is to hire very good security and make sure you have a guest list to keep undesirables out.

Real talk from the trenches, right there. Things can get out of hand in an uncontrolled spot and that is no fun for the organizer.

if it's being promoted on the DHP/internet, that's not really renegade...

Renegade, back in the days, meant when the club kids (Alig and crew) use to get the word out by word of mouth to be on the platform of the #6 train, back car, at Astor Place, at ____ am, and when the train comes in the station, everybody runs in, set up a dj set up, and have a rocking party for a few stops on the train and then get off the train and go to somebody's loft and continue the party.

another would be to know the owner of a loft space would be gone for a few months, and you start you parties there....or if you know a new loft is opening up, you get a month to month lease and do parties there until they kick you out.

all these are cool, but the difference is most of us who use to do these crazy stuff have grown up and have a lot to lose personally when the cops come knocking.

good luck with your party tonite.

Yeah I hired security for tonight.

If tonight goes off well, i think it may be time to start a series of parties that move locations. That was the original "Secret Rendezvous" idea, to go back to the traveling party concept. I did one, it was fun, and then I fell off hahaha! Well hopefully tonight's party gets me back in the swing of outlaw things...

I've been to those outlaw parties, but those days are over. No club kids left! Yeah, I've got too much to lose as far as doing a party in a train station. I've actually been busted for shit like that before, once in like 1994 or something. We were 11 stories below the ground, some cops saw one of the people climb down, and bam it was a bust. Had to go to court, the whole 9 yards.

I've got a loft lined up though for something else.

Thanks, I hope tonight is fun too

Those parties were great, but the last parties I've heard about seemed to be in places like that Greenpoint club, unless I am confused. Phil is great like that, he probably still does them but I haven't been paying enough attention.

The last Rubalad party was on New year's. The cops shut that party down, but I think there will be more to come. A lady named Sari Rubenstein throws them. I met her when she was singing with Rev. Billy.

I'm seriously considering getting back to doing rogue parties. Those are the most fun and if you can get the crowd, then they are often awesome.

They Happen in Brooklyn all the time. They happen sometimes in Manhattan. They just don't happen in this scene as much as they used to.

as long as the noise doesnt bother any neighbours, there really isnt anything like a rogue party in berlin, save people storming a bank atm room or walkway tunnel with a boombox or even battery operated dj setup to dance for half an hour until the cops scatter the crowd.

dont piss off the neighbours, and promoters can basically do what they want

I loved them because there was nobody there I knew, so I could just enjoy the actual party and people watch without the constant "whassups" and interuptions. I also just loved the idea of partying in a place that I use to grab cheap chinese food at lunch when I use to work in the Wall Street area in the late 80s. I just loved the idea that some new cats (at the time) was on the scene, not running up in some club, and making it happen. I went for one of their Holloween parties and it was just a really cool crowd that you knew this was how they dressed on the regular...not all ghoulish and costumey (if that make any sense).

it was just different...and I loved it.
