Saw it Saturday, the FX are the greatest I've ever seen.
Too bad that the story had to fit the mainstream audience, of course with that kind of budget and director I wasn't excepting something better.

I found it really violent for no reason on the second part (battles), and was really afraid when Jake started his speech and ended it with his red eyes "WE'RE GONNA SHOW THEM!!! AAAHHHSssSsssSsssS!". What a wonderful message...

Also, when he came back on the back of the big dragon, I couldn't think anything else than "OK, he clearly has the biggest balls".

Very radio-controlled scenario. Absolutly no surprises except in the decor.

Good start for the movies 2.0!

Nice movie. I liked the attention to detail. James Cameron hired a professor from USC to develop the language of the No'vi, with its own grammar and a vocabulary of 1,000 words. Would like to see more movies doing the 3D thing now.

I would like a 3D Bluray for my house...

The bugs flying around and plant life tripped me out. I also liked how the camera seems to pan in and out of some of the scenes, almost like they are intentionally showing off the detail of the FX. That movie had me ducking and dodging...

found it fitting that the first proper 3D film was about seeing the world in a different way... lol

story was weak but the effects made up for it...

Saw it last night. It was OK. Agree with the general sentiment that the story line and dialogue was kinda weak, but the special efx were good.

i'm reading the way to see it is "lie-max" or "imax-digital" which isn't real imax but the digital version they started pushing off as the real thing a couple years ago. avatar isn't true 70mm imax so seeing it on the giant screen won't add anything beyond neck strain.

Do we really need a love story meshed in with every sci-fi plot? Just wasn't buying that part. Other than that, the effects was off the chain. If you don't see it in 3D, don't bother.

while you are technically correct, I beg to differ
Sitting in the center at that 68th st theater and being all consumed by the image is the way to go

i've read the imax version has some ghosting issues on stuff in the foreground and other image problems. nerd stuff but still noticeable. imax-digital is cleaner but obviously not as large. i saw it in a regular stadium style theater and will see it again in imax digital. report back with details...

Really? So dont pay the extra money to see it in at an "IMAX" Theater because the only difference will be the larger screen? Isnt the IMAX sound system better too where it gives a Digital Surround Effect? Also is it 3D at the IMAX theater?

IMAX on 42nd is digital, but barely bigger than a regular screen

I think the natural history museum is also digital
