something I relaized by listening to other people's mixes here.....

I will Never be that good!!!! I have listened to thousands (ok hundreds) of mixes by various people on this site. and after listening to the first mix I posted here I suck so bad. Hell AK, JMJ, Lil Ray, Barry B, S&S, and all the others mixes seemed to flow together so seamlessly I mean most times you cant tell where one song ends and the other song begins...and it doesn;'t matter what they are mixing
I tried all weekend to remake the mix I posted (much to the chagrin of my son and my wife) and although it became a little better it never seemd to "blend" together seemlessly..I still had fun but it got to be frustrating for me after 5 days at about 3 hours a day...

    Bro,
    A) Keep having fun w/ it. That's the most important thing.
    B) Your mixing skills will improve w/ practice, so don't give up.

I also noticed that I need to organize my cd books better. It helps me to find the next song for the mix...

soulman, I am still learning....one day it will just click for you...Just have fun with it and play from the heart...you already love this shit.. Don't over think it, and always remember, everything doesn't have to be mixed. Just create your own style.

Now where is the link to that mix of yours? I did not listen to it last time.

I am definitely having fun...In fact I broadcast on the internet for some friends in Detroit, Cali and chicago for New years eve and we had a blast chatting in the chat room and I had fun but it was mostly old school and not much house. Its funny most people don't care if the songs are not mixed except for househeads

I will PM you the link. check the thread for the abundance of great advice I received...

Tell it JMJ cause I know I didn't and I am still a long way form being great at it but I have gotten good at it and there are tracks that used to give me trouble blending in that now are smooth and as I dive deeper into this music I find new tracks that give me trouble and I just keep messing up and mixing messing up and mixing and then one day no more messing up....practice practice practice.....Soulman trust me from a relative newcomer to this don't quit man keep working and having fun listening and learning. While there may be alot of silly shit that goes on here on the P there is also alot of great information, talent and knowledge and I know your smart enough to take what you need and let the rest go..Stay positive Bro..........
Get to know me now so that one day you can say yeah I knew him back then......

As others have said, just keep practicing, and above all, have fun with it.

Don't know if you've tried this, but one thing I did early on was spend a lot of time practicing with two copies of the same record. You can learn a lot from beat matching, "echoing" and mixing in and out of the same record/song.

I dunno how long you've been mixing, and what you are mixing.
I wouldn't start with hip-hop, funk nor disco, you have to practice on computer programmed 4/4 beats first.

Dealing with disco or funk is really when you know how to be cool while mixing and not focusing on some beat matching perfection.

Also try to have fun, this is much more than being good. I mean, who's your audience, and do you really care about it today?

From your fun and experimentation, you will (maybe) get an audience, a radio show or anything else that will keep some crowd entertained.

And if it doesn't work, try to create your own beats to do what you really want to do.

    All the best!

    Idance
PS: PM me your link, I'm always eager to hear some more music.

Not so sure about this part, only because I remember practicing my mixing skills blending new (80's) and old (70's), but more importantly...with Gemini belt drive turntables. It was tough at first, but once I had it, 1200's were a piece of cake. BUT, to each his/her own and I realize that everyone learns in different ways.
