I thoroughly enjoyed it a couple of years ago, and even though I don't believe the author's claim to have done everything he writes in the book, it still is a very entertaining read. The funny thing is that almost everyone I know that has read it reaches a point about halfway through where they have to put it down for a while- and many never end up reading the second half.

Incidentally, Leopold's Cafe was the site of mass killings during the Mumbai terrorist attacks last year. My cousin was at Leopold's and left a few minutes before the terrorists arrived.

I read it years ago, Amazing book and as an Aussie I am even prouder. A truly great book. It is hard to put down. He is writing a sequel at the monet and Shtaram is part of a trilogy.

Film wise it will be interesting as Johnny Depp brought the rights and Mira Nair is
directing. Due for release next year

That's the Aussie guy who wrote the book in prison in India or Thailand, then it got destroyed, then he rewrote it, no? Saw it on a shelf the other day, don't have time for it though.

Incredible book. I wanted to learn about the country's culture before I took a 6 month trip to India in 2006. Not only was it a fantastic read, but I learned more about Indian culture than from any of the crappy travel books out there.
