QUOTED BY JAY-Z:Washington Post of the song, which featured Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber, "The updated take was horribly oversung... save for the 21st-century rap verses added toward the end of the track." Wrote the New York Times, "Lil Wayne, you're no Bob Dylan.... as a piece of work, [the song] has all the pitfalls of a Hollywood remake."

Deep. Its totally stated by Jay himself that this will be taken the wrong way. (that's Hollywood)

Applaud the effort from a charitable perspective, but not feeling the remake from a music perspective...at all. Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie are talented enough to have written/produced a new song just as successful as "We Are The World."

You gotta help me with this one. Quincy doesn't need $ and I'm sure Lionel is well off.

I see the point in Brother's and Sisters agreeing that Jay-Z's point is valid just as much as those who think other wise.

The Term (It's for Haiti is just that). These are cat's who have millions beyond millions and I know you did your part in Brooklyn (Much Respect) but why the sour statement tho?

Jay-Z: "We Are the World" Shouldn't Have Been Remade

RasAnthoney, I don't take a stance, In regards to the remaking of, 'We are the world', As long as all of the proceeds go to the folks in Haiti, My man, RasAnthoney, It's been 25 years, Since cats recorded the Live aid concerts in Philadelphia and overseas, So, Maybe more memorable functions, Geared towards helping folks in need, Should be created to

Embrace some form of humanity, My man, RasAnthoney, I was buggin when KRS, Created another, 'Self destuction', Plate in 2008, Featuring, Cats like David Banner, The Game, Nelly, Ne-Yo, Talib Kweli, Method Man, Styles P, Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe, Cassidy, MC Lyte,

50 Cent, Etc, RasAnthoney, Most of those artists, Were most definitely, Not conscious or thought provoking, My man/LOL, But, The Theme was the most important factor that i had to look at, In regards to KRS's actions, To put cats down, Who would never have been

Considered thought Provoking, When it comes to lyrical content and action in the community, RasAnthoney, KRS put out a 2009, Version of, 'Self Destruction', Featuring,

Twista, Syleena Johnson, Phil G, Crucial Conflict, Kenny Bogus, Straw and Pugz Atomz, So, May opinion in regards to the remaking of, 'We are the world', Is, As long as the theme is solid and all the proceeds go to the folks in Haiti, I'm with it, My man.

Your words will not fall on deaf ears, Thank you for taking the time out of your day to grace this post with your opinion, It is well deserved.

The Focus. As long as the funding goes to Haiti, I'm for that.

I remember the efforts of KRS 1 on Self Destruction, very moving giving cat's that you mentioned there shine..

Jay is right, and I applaud him for being candid and upfront about it. Where as there are probably more than a few other prominent people & artists who share his view but won't say it. I have no problem with them doing something for Haiti, but create something new just for them. Way too many real creative minds involved to recycle that song.

Kanye pretty much told everyone that Taylor Swift was inferior and look at how her career has sky-rocketed since then.

I agree with Jay-Z, the song should never have been remade, BUT I understand why - rehash a hit, make money. Yes, Q and Lionel are talented but without Michael I don't think they could ever make a song of that caliber. Those words are ALL MJ.

Seems like a new idea not a recycled one would have been appropriate and more effective. I'm sure it no doubt raised money, but it created no buzz. Something original and executed would have raised a lot more money.

That's why they even resorted to including the MJ hologram, which was sorta cheesy IMHO.

Jay-Z: "We Are the World" Shouldn't Have Been Remade

SueT, I do agree with you, That it would have been very difficult, To make a song the caliber of, 'We are the world', Without, Michael Jackson, Though, I feel the songwriting

Talents of Siedah Garrett, Would have greatly impacted the project, In regards to a song on the calibar of, 'We are the World', Siedah Garrett was the co-writer for the plate, 'Man in the mirror', Along with Michael Jackson in 1987.

Jay was right. They could have made there own stand alone song and generated sales from people who wanted to hear THOSE PARTICULAR artists. Anyone just trying to find another way to donate or a second chance on obtaining a piece of musical history may just have well bought a re-release I'm thinking.

I agree...shouldn't have been re-done. As Little Kim would say "...get your own ish why you riding mine?" I never thought I would have to quote her...but it fits.

    The Original

“We Are the World” is a song and charity single originally recorded by the supergroup USA for Africa in 1985. It was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, and co-produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian for the album We Are the World. Honored numerous times — including three Grammy Awards, one American Music Award and a People’s Choice Award — the song was promoted with a critically received music video, a home video, a special edition magazine, a simulcast, and several books, posters and shirts. The promotion and merchandise aided the success of “We Are the World”, which was eventually named the biggest-selling single of all time.

In the years that have followed, USA for Africa has raised and distributed more than $63 million in revenue from the sales of more than 7 million units of the album, single and cassettes, plus nearly 2 million digital sales and related merchandise. Just over half the total was spent on emergency relief (food, medicine, and refugee services) and the balance was used to support more than 500 different relief, rehabilitation and development projects in 18 different countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

Im starting to see a different picture here. Look at how much money eas made for Africa!

Can this new Song Generate that much income for Haiti?

Maybe the song sucks. Maybe the song lacks production, every view is cherished from the brothers and sisters on DHP BUT , The Million Dollar Question What about Haiti.
