Trento, AK, Dave Zinkoff was the most popular Basketball announcer in any era, But, I've always felt that John Condon was the most respected basketball announcer, In any era, John Condon was the voice of Madison Square Garden, During the 1960's,70's,80's, John Condon did not have the flair and flash of Dave Zinkoff, Because, John Condon did not need any type
Of flash and flair, In regards to John Condon doing his job/LOL, Trento, AK, John Condon would, 'Make it plain', In regards to John Condon's style of announcing NBA games, College games, Even, Highschool games too, During the 1960's,70's,80's, I would like to add, That, Joe Hammond will be 60 years of age this year too(Joe Hammond and Julius Erving were well-respected adversaries at The Rucker, During the late 60's to mid 70's).

correction y'all...the 6ers BEAT boston in '80...that was great...then they ran into some tall ass, versatile rookie who smiled too fuckin much(sour grapes)......boston made that comeback in the '81 conf. finals....but y'all get my point though...'80-'82? torture....
AK, John Condon passed away in 1989, My man, John Condon had a very distinctive voice too(AK, If you and Trento, Can ever catch one of the Knicks old games from the 70's, Or the 1970 NBA championship game 7, Featuring, The Knicks vs Los Angeles, On the classic sports channel, When, Willis Reed came out of the Knicks locker-room with one knee/LOL,
AK, Trento, Maybe, Michael Cooper felt that Julius Erving was gonna lay that up, My man/LOL, Trento, Dave Zinkoff was a very good public announcer for the Philadelphia 76er's(I used to love to hear Dave Zinkoff, Announce that, Maurice C-h-e-e-k-s, Was in the
Game/LOL, Along with George Mc-G-i-n-n-i-s-s too,/LOL, AK, Trento, If i remember correctly, Dave Zinkoff was the public address announcer for the 1981 NCAA championship game, Featuring, Indiana vs North Carolina(I do recall Dave Zinkoff being the public address announcer for College games that were played in the Spectrum, During the 70's/80's, For a few too.

oh ok i didn't know zinkoff called college games as well....
Trento, Dave Zinkoff, Worked more than a few college games, During the 1970's,80's, My Man, Dave Zinkiff was crew with Rollie Massimino(Former Head coach at Villanova during the 1970's,80'), John Cheney, Paul Westhead(Who used to coach at LaSalle University in
Philadelphia during the 1970's), Chuck Daly/Rip(Who was the head coach at The University of Pennsylvania, During the 1970's), Sonny Hill(Legendary basketball guru in Philadelphia, And, Founder of the Baker League in 1968, In Philadephia),Etc, Dave Zinkoff, Was very well-respected on the college basketball circuit, During the 1970's/80's, My man, Trento, If a
cat were to ask Julius Erving, Who was his toughest opponent he had to check and go Up against , Julius Erving would say, JOE HAMMOND, My man/LOL, Trento, Julius Erving and Joe Hammond had legendary battles at the Rucker, During the early to mid 70's(Julius Erving used to play for Converse all-stars, Coached by Pete Vesey(Former Basketball
Analyst for NBC sports, During the 90's), And, Joe Hammond played for Millbank in Harlem, Trento, If anyone has any footage of the games, That, Joe Hammond and Julius Erving played in at the Rucker(Against one-another), Cats would be mad buggin, At the things that Joe Hammond and Julius Erving were doing on the court, During the early to mid 70's, My man/LOL.

Doc will always be the man, Happy Birthday. One of my favorite Doc moves was the reverse layup against the Lakers in the finals when he kissed the ball off the glass while floating by 3 Lakers.
ok, cool...all of that info about zink you is new to me...joe hammond vs. the doc is fairly new to me(1990's)...i got hip to joe hammond, skip, etc. via slam magazine...now i'm gonna pose a question...maybe u/someone can answer maybe not but if you're the greatest/most celebrated player on earth(early 70's) and there's another player who stays on your ass better than anyone and lights you up more than anyone, wouldn't you damn near kill yourself and after that, pull some strings to have him on your team? joe hammond should have been a squire, a net and then a 6er man...did the streets get to him?
my favorite move also....that following monday at recess i was outside on the court(algonquin elementary, park forest, il) practicing reverse layups for the first time.....then i moved up to one hand reverse layups....popular rnb song out at the time? 'say oops upside ya head....' sorry y'all, kinda got carried away......
Trento, In 1971, Joe Hammond was sittin on 200G's, In a safe, In one of his spots in Harlem, At the age of 21, My man/LOL, Trento, Wilt Chamberlain was very instrumental in getting Joe Hammond an in-formal tryout for the Los Angeles Lakers in 1971, Trento, The
tryout was held at Pace College in Manhattan(By the Brooklyn Bridge and Park Row), The Lakers flew out to New York, On their off day too, To have the tryout for Joe Hammond, My man/LOL, Trento, Joe Ham, Demolished every cat, The Lakers thru at him, During the tryouts(Jerry West, Gail Goodrich, Especially, Pat Riley, Jim Price,Etc), Infact, Pat Riley tried to hurt Joe Hammond, During the tryouts, Because, Joe was crackin Pat Riley's ass,
Mad hard, My man/LOL, Jack Kent Cooke offered Joe Hammond a contract, On the spot after the tryouts(50'G's), Trento, Joe Hammond had over 200'Gs, From movin weight and Rolling Celo(Dice/LOL), Joe Hammond turned the Lakers offer down(Which was a bad decision, But, Joe hammond had alot more money, Than most of the cats in the NBA,
During the early to mid 70's/LOL), Along with Joe Hammonds Reputation in New York(Joe Hammond was more popular as Walt Frazier, Malcolm X, And, Muhummad Ali combined, During the 70's in New York), So, Joe Hammond did not need the money of the NBA, My man/LOL, Trento, The NBA's money and prestige, Was cab fare for Joe Ham, My man/LOL, Joe Hammond was revered in New York(Especially at the Rucker and in all of Harlem),
Trento, Joe Hammond was the most revered and well-respected cat to come out of New York, In regards to basketball, My man(And, Including, Kareem, Earl Manigult, Connie Hawkins, Julius Erving, Bernard King, Tiny Archibald, Etc, Trento, Joe could have been a superstar in the ABA or NBA, But, Joe did not want it, My man, Joe was just happy with G'ing it up, Movin weight, Living the life of a big willy criminal, And, Playing at the Rucker,
During the 70's/80's, Trento, If you were to ask anyone of those cats, Who was the best cat that they have every seen play the game of basketball, All of those cats would say JOE HAMMOND, With the exception of Kareem, Who has stated that Earl Manigult was the best cat, That he has ever seen play the game of basketball, My man, Trento, I was watching an NBA profile on Jerry West during the late 80's, And, Jerry West was asked,
Who was the best cat that he had ever seen, Jerry West, Said Joe Hammond, The cat who asked the question Said, Who/LOL, Jerry West began to build about Joe Hammond playing in that tryout in 1971, My man, And, The cat asking the questions, Was in awe with his/LOL.

ok...my dumbass has seen you post this info before and on the real(remember i'm not a tri-stater) sometimes i get the n.y.c. street ball legends(from the 60s, 70s and 80s) mixed up... why? cuz i've never SEEN them(hint hint lol)...but yeah i can dig it, dude was not only gifted at ball, he was gifted at ballin' as well a la pee wee kirkland, etc....ok man, even though this thread is supposed to be about doc(we always get side tracked), let's cut to the chase here; who was the coldest, ham or fly? EDIT: not trying to make you repeat yourself cuz u just said ham was the coldest but i've heard you say some heavy things about fly as well...

Trento, Joe Hammond was the best cat, That i ever ever seen play the game of basketball, My man, Not because, Joe Hammond's from New York, Joe Hammond was the most complete cat that i have ever seen play the game of basketball in regards to offense and defense(When, Joe Ham wanted to play D/LOL), Trento, Joe Hammond was way ahead of alot of cats, Mentally, In regards to the science of basketball(Money could play in a very
Structured offense and defense type element, And, Joe could, CLEAR IT OUT, And, Get his too, Without going nut/LOL), Trento, Fly was mad tough too, Though, Fly had a very bad attitude(Towards cats that Fly played with and against, Along with a few coaches too/LOL), Also, Fly used To play alot, While, mad zooted/LOL, Trento, Fly was the best
Cat, That i have ever seen play the game of basketball, While zooted/LOL, Trento, I've seen my share of cats play zooted, But, Fly played zooted, Like alot of cats played sober, With a very clean head/LOL, Trento, Cats like Joe, Fly, Etc, Played hard, When they felt
like it(Joe and Fly would go hard, When they felt challenged), Another thing about Joe Hammond, Is, Joe kept himself in very good condition, Despite, Joe Hammond getting zooted too/LOL, Joe had a very slim build, But, Joe could run all-day/LOL, While, Fly's conditioning was not very good(Because, Fly used to get mad zooted with his/LOL),
Trento, I've seen Joe play against Fly a few times at the Rucker and at IS8(Pro-am summer tournament in Jamaica,Queens, During the early 70's to early 80's), Joe and Fly, Both, Put on a show, Every-time that went against one-another, Either at The Rucker and IS8,
Trento, Joe had more moves than Fly, But, Fly had a-little bit more range on his Jumper than Joe(Fly could shot it from 25-30 feet out, Very easily, While, Joe would shoot-it from 25-30 feet too, Though, Joe could get to the basket easier than Fly, Both, Joe and Fly could get up mad high too(Joe Hammond is 6'3, While Fly Williams is 6'5), Trento, Joe
Hammond and Fly Williams, Were both students of game(Who always believed that, A cat never stops learning in regards to a cats knowledge of the game of basketball), Trento, Michael Jordan is the best cat that i've ever seen play in the NBA, But, The best cat that i've ever seen play in my lifetime, Is, JOE HAMMOND, My man.

Ham '...at Rucker Park in New York, on one occasion dropping 50 points in one half on Dr. J Julius Irving. He also set a Rucker Park single game scoring record with 82 points...'
Fly '....He was known as a prolific scorer who once scored 63 points on NBA hall of famer Moses Malone in a Dapper Dan Classic game....While at Austin Peay, Fly averaged 28.5 points per game in two years of play....'

lets see...50 in a half on doc, 82 in a game vs. 63 on mo' and leading nation in scoring...
like u said man, ham.
Trento, Cats at the Rucker who played with Joe Hammond, Used to give Joe the pill, Just to see if Joe would miss a shot, My man(This is True), Trento, That' why Joe was gettin 82 and 75 in games at the rucker, During the 70's/80's, My man(Joe was not going nut, Cats on Joe's crew, Wanted to see if Joe would miss a shot, So, Cats kept giving Joe the pill to shoot/LOL), Trento, Joe could have got 100 in a game, If he wanted too, But, Joe wanted other cats to break his scoring record at the Rucker(Which no-one has done/LOL), While, Fly is the only cat to score 100 in a game(Along with Wilt
Chamberlain), But, Fly got his 100, Playing for two different crews in the same game, During an Pro-am, Allstar game at IS8, In 1978, Fly was playing with my man James Ryans(Legendary basketball coach in New York and Scout for the Knicks), Allstar crew, Featuring: Lloyd Free, Jocko(Greg Jackson from Brownsville), Bernard Hardin, Al Skinner(Head Coach for Boston College), Darryl Dawkins, George Berry, Etc, Well, Fly had 50 at the half, playing with all of those cats/LO, At halftime, Fly
Got mad at cats, Saying that cats were going nut(Though, Fly had 50 at the half and money is complaining about cats going nut/LOL), Well, Fly played with my man Rapper Perez(Rip), Crew in the second half, Playing against Lloyd Free, Darryl Dawkins, Jocko, Bernard Hardin, And, Fly gave them 50 in the second half/LOL, Trento, Fly is the only cat in the history of basketball, To score 100 in game, Playing for two different crews, In the same game, My man/LOL.

Trento, I've seen Joe Hammond stop traffic, Infront of Smalls Paradise(135thst and 7thave in Harlem), During the mid 70's, My man/LOL, Joe Hammond would have cats, Triple-parked on 135thst, Just to build with Joe Hammond, My man(True story), Trento, Wilt Chamberlain used to be the owner of Smalls Paradise, During the late 60's to early 70's, Smalls Paradise,
was the the top celebrity spot in Harlem, During the 1960's/70's, Cats like Bumpy Johnson, Gordon Parks/Rip, Julius Harris/Rip(Who played in the movies, 'Black Belt Jones', 'Hell up in Harlem', 'Black Caesar', During the 70's), Calvin Lockhart, Howard Hughes(Word, Howard Hughes/LOL), Lana Turner(Word, Lana Turner/LOL), Ossie Davis, Frank Lucas, Frank
Matthews, Nicky Barnes, Walt Frazier, Earl Monroe, Willis Reed, Dick Barnett, Ronnie Isley, Dj Hollywood, Ruby Dee, Sonia Sanchez, Eartha Kitt, Dianne Carroll, Miles Davis, Dorothy Dandridge Etc, All used to hang at Smalls Paradise, During the 1960's,70's, Trento, Joe
Hammond had as much juice in Harlem, During the 70's/80's, As anyone that i mentioned Earlier, Combined, My man(True), Trento, Cats in Rikers(Rikers Island in Queens), Had
Mad,Mad, Respect for Joe, While, Joe was doing a push in Rikers, For Drug Trafficking, During the early 90's, Infact, One of my boys, Who is a CO at Rikers, Used to build with me, On How, NOBODY in Rikers, Evey stepped to Joe about anything(Joe Being on the phone to Long, Joe getting more to eat, During meals, Than other cats, Joe, Not having to do as
Many chores, Like other cats, Etc, Joe was a very nice cat too(Though, Joe was alittle Paranoid with his, If a cat did not know him like that/LOL), But, For a cat of Joe's stature, I can most definitely see why Joe would be, Very suspicious of cats, Who may run up on him, At the drop of a dime/LOL.

good stuff man....dude was the king of the street ball beasts.....
Trento, Going to the Rucker, Was the best thing in life, For a young cat in the community, Who was into the New York basketball circuit, During the 70's, My man/LOL, Trento, To see so many cats(Pro college, Street), Play, While cats were triple-parked on 155thst and
8th ave in Harlem(Outside The Rucker), Along with mad cats sittin in trees, Watching games
out the windows of The Polo-ground Projects(Which was the spot for the New York Giants baseball crew, During the late 1800's to 1957, When, The New York Giants moved to San Francisco), The street entertainers, Who would be at the Rucker, Mad buggin, During
Halftime and time-outs of the Rucker games, My man, Who had the frank-Stand outside the Rucker, During the 70's/80's, Duke Tango, Yvonne, I forgot the other cat, Who used to rock the mic(Play by play of the games), During the early to late 70's, But, Money was mad funny with his/LOL, Trento, Even the scenary, Around the Rucker was beautiful, My man(At least to me it was/LOL), Trento, The Macombs Bridge on 155thst(Which seperated
Manhattan from the Bronx), Was over-head from the Rucker(Cats could walk from the Rucker to the Bronx, Over the Macombs Bridge), Trento, I never had the opportunity to see Pee-Wee Kirkland play at the Rucker, During the late 60's to early 70's, Because,
During the late 60's, Was a little bit before my time, In regards to hanging out like that, My man(I started hanging at the Rucker during the summer of 1974), Pee-Wee Kirkland was upnorth for Drug trafficking, During the early 70's to early 80's, When, Pee Wee Kirkland
Came home During the early 80's, Pee-Wee Kirkland, Violated his parole, So, Pee- Wee Kirkland had to go upnorth till the late 80's, So, I never had the opportunity to see Pee-Wee Kirkland play at the Rucker or at Norfolk State(Pee-Wee Kirkland played with Bobby Dandridge at Norfolk State, During the late 60's), Trento, Harlem had a very different feel,
Atmosphere wise, Compared to Jamaica,Queens, My man(Though, Both, Harlem and Jamaica,Queens, Had the same type of cats in the community, In regards to Legal cats and Illegal cats/LOL), But, Harlem was alot more faster, Hip, Street, Etc, Than,
Jamaica,Queens(Which was all of those elements too, But, Not like uptown/Harlem/LOL, Trento, When cats from around my old way in Jamaica,Queens, Got off the D-Train to 155thst and 8thave to watch games at the Rucker, Cats most definitely knew, They were uptown, My man/LOL.
