Former New York City sportscaster Dr. Marvell Scott was indicted on Tuesday, on charges that he raped a 14-year old runaway girl, who was working as a prostitute. But according to wtop.com, Scott pleaded not guilty at the arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court.
Scott’s attorney Richard Portale called the charges, which include rape, endangering the welfare of a child and patronizing a prostitute, “a ruse.” Portale said “This case boils down to an attempt to shake down Dr. Scott, by a pimp and his two prostitutes.”
Manhattan prosecutors have said that on the afternoon of June 5th 2008, Scott met with a man and two young girls near Times Square. He was then said to have paid the man, and took the 14-year old girl and her 16-year old friend back to his apartment.
It was then that he was said to have raped the younger girl. Authorities say that the older girl was in the bedroom, at the time of the assault. Prosecutors said that Scott supposedly called the man he had met after the incident, asking again for the 14-year old.
According to the assistant district attorney Lisa Friel, there is no DNA evidence that links Scott to the 14-year old girl, because he apparently used a condom. Although DNA was found on the girl’s neck from two men, which includes that of the man that Scott had met
