what about if you don't have a visual? Like when you are making a cd or playing an internet show for public consumption?

    still question to the dj:

can your ego allow you to realize you are boring and then allow you to do something about it?

If not easily known, the Boring Process Flow below should help to identify when this occurs:

Start --> "Hey Y'all, I've got some brand new / unreleased gems I'm going to lay down tonight" --> "I'm educating the crowd" --> "The crowd wasn't ready for my brilliance" --> Boring --> Denial --> "Due to Circumstances beyond my/our control, I am no longer @ (insert venue here)" --> End

Sometimes the dj does not take the hint. We did that to a dj from the US who was playing techno'ish tracks at a deep house party

If I'm preparing a mix I can tell if I sound boring.

Some cats are hard headed. Some cats don't play for the crowd, just for themselves.

Some cats just can't move the crowd...

Isn't "boring" more of a relative term, I mean there are some ppl who play to packed houses and Internet chat rooms and such who sound like shit, and then there might be a cat killing the box playing to an empty room.........

Seems like it's a case of one man's trash vs one man's treasure.....

If a jock has a rep among some people as being a "boring" dj does that mean that he/she is not a good dj or does it mean that some ppl are just not into the dj's sound, technique, style, and presentation.........

Nope...boring is just that...boring....and A packed internet chat room don't mean shit, when that same dj gets in the real world and can't hold or control a room.

If i realize Iam not tapping my foot, or bobbing my head..i know iam getting boring, and playing for myself....just for the sake of listening....or i just stop and make note of my mood at that second...that usually gives me indication...if i feel bored...then iam sure i am projecting it through the music iam playing...

J, if one or two cats call a jock boring that doesn't make him/her a boring jock, I have to disagree with you on this one, boring to some may be banging to others..........
