I don't like the term electro-clash but there is some good stuff if you look hard enough. Also it's led to a reappraisal of older new wave/electro/italo records, which is a good thing.

Electro revival is on it's way out here in the U.K. Seemed to be more popular a few years ago with likes of Anthony Rother, Andy Weatherall/Keith Tenniswood, Dexter, Ecotmorph, Breakin records (UK), Puzzlebox, Electrix, UR, Viewlexx

Some are basically techno with a different name and some have more of the original sound of Electro

Here's some reccomended stuff from Haywire

    Sirus - Death Star
Two Step sounds and programming with a four to the floor backbeat. Bass terrorism in a Si Begg lost in Peckham stylie.

    Label:Runnin' Format:12"

    Tube Jerk - Shift
Leading the charge away from Loop cul de sac riding an armour plated steam driven robot horse, Tim Wright delivers an album's worth of swinging pounders.

    Label:Sativae Format:2xLP

    Tube Jerk - Shift
Leading the charge away from Loop cul de sac riding an armour plated steam driven robot horse, Tim Wright delivers an album's worth of swinging pounders.

    Label:Sativae Format:CD

    False - Wav Pool
If you're going to go minimal do it with dirt and a throbbing bass foundation.

    Label:Plus 8 Format:12"

    S*Max & Paradroid - Chocolate Poodle
Four teacks of well produced lush sounding yet funk ridden and dirty, experimental dance-floor electro. Forward thinking but with a doffed cap in the direction of the past pioneers.

    Label:Overdrive Format:12"

    V/A - Elektronische Musik 2
High quality double pack of experimental funk from around the world. Quality minimalism from one of the labels that helps set the benchmark.

    Label:Traum Format:CD

    V/A - Elektronische Musik 2
High quality double pack of experimental funk from around the world. Quality minimalism from one of the labels that helps set the benchmark.

    Label:Traum Format:2xLP

Perspects - The Third And Final Report
Another journey to the future via a fondly remembered past. Like an early 'some bizarre' release with added production values; packed with fun, sleaze, and funk. These people should really do a record with John Foxx.

    Label:Interdimensional Transmissions Format:12"

Hidden Library Vol3 - Jnr Poon
Second release on the, available through Biwire only, 7" label. Side A is the rubber band dark electro-pop stomper Lord Of The Hornets. Side B is the deeply disturbing rumbling psychodrama that tells the tale of My Backward Cousin Mark. Tracklist

    Label:Hidden Library Format:7"

    The Chairman's Previous Recommended

Wilko - Wilko's Dirty Ghetto Jam
Three tracky pumpers and a vocal led disco-funk 'titties' tune together on one piece of pimptastic plastic. **** art, lets dance to well programmed and produced rump shakers.

    Label:Pimp Format:12"

The Rapture - House Of Jealous Lovers
Limtied edition packaged in a picture sleeve. House of Jealous Lovers is the first UK offering from genre bending U.S. punkers The Rapture. Its a pure slab of classic screaming angst, punk chic and savvy, mixed over an infectious death disco beat. Imagine the Gang Of Four and Liquid Liquid making out at the Paradise Garage with P.I.L. This 3 tracker also features a remix from highly respected New York producer Morgan Geist (of Metro Area and Environ Records fame) as well as a bonus track. Recorded in NYC under the guiding hand of DFA who consist of James Murphy and founding Unkle member Tim Goldsworthy. Jack be quick.

    Label:Output Format:12"

    8 Bit Rockers - 8 Bit
Ten tracks of tight, dark, funky (sometimes vocal) electro goodness. A slightly spookier and more finely tuned sound than on their previous Bunker release, sounding like the intervening months have seen the Rockers working their backsides off. Totally essential modern electro.

    Label:Bunker Format:MLP

Chloe Poems - The Queen Sucks Nazi Cock / Fiona Bowker - Bionic Woman
A spoken word oddity that starts as a camp Shakespearian ode to the joys of England suddenly takes a twisted turn and the bile flows. Looking for something to play to spoil the Jubilee celebrations being enjoye by your Daily Mail reading neighbors or as last tune of the night shortly before being sacked from your Dj job at the Young Conservatives Disco? Then this is for you. Good work Miss Poems, if you performed this on television a whole new generation of fat truck drivers would kick their TV stations in. Worth admission price alone simply to own a record called 'The Queen Sucks Nazi Cock'.

    Label:Switchflicker Format:7"

    Skanfrom - Handpicked Fragments
Eight new tracks and one only previously released on tape make up the vinyl. Those tunes and 12 'Greatest Hits' comprise the CD, so if the budget allows it's the vinyl for discotheque useage and the CD for pleasure in the car or at home. Skanfrom and Suction Records, always a bi-word for quality, ransack the past and create a future that sets standards as far as electro's new wave is concerned. In an eighties overkill atmosphere these people are part of the elite commando diision against which other units should be judged. Message complete. Deploy this beauty bomb immediately. Ps... the vinyl features an un credited Duran Duran cover version.... bup bud up ba dub bup bud up... this is planet earth.

    Label:Suction Format:LP

Marcia Blaine - School For Girls EP
The first release on Rub-A-Dub's Dalriada imprint. I know from first hand experience the care, love and thought that went into getting this label together and boy does it show in the quality of the music. Four tracks of stunning melodic beauty with strange twists and turns in every tune. Beautifully produced machine music instigating both the analogue and digital worlds where end result is more important than the process (unlike many rather sterile records in this field).

    Label:Dariada Format:12"

    Murcof - Martes
The beauty of this masterwork has left me speechless so I'll leave it to Leaf themselves to sum up. 'gooseflesh-inducing aura of mystery and suspense drawing together the divergent disciplines of classical orchestration and electronic minimalism' 'lush atmospheric layers of strings and piano restrained by posiedmicro-rythms' I couldn't have put it better myself... so I didn't.

    Label:Leaf Format:2xLP

UK Garage , and the Hard step drum and bass, people carrying machetes into clubs and such like. These are young lads who must have been dragged up, no manners (god I sound old ) , but these are a new and hated breed of scumbag, they wouldn't want to sort shit out with a one on one, little Rockport wearing fools are nothing on their own but they act the cunt when they are in masses and take over a these Garage venues, not that it really bothers me on the club thing as I don't frequent those venues, but when you see these idiots larging it in a record shop you just want to slice the ears of em with a high velocity spinning 12"

I was speaking to my freind who has a shop, and he sells all alot of styles of music, inc UK Garage, he informed me it does his head in these little wanna be bad boys come in the shop giving it the big one, "give me this" "give me that" "YO ! have you got so and so", after pandering to these idiots they buy nothing , slope out the shop leaving the records they demanded on the counter and doing nothing more than being a pest a wasting time, these people need to get some social behavoir skills and more so, some basic manners.

Now this is the serious side of it: -

That is high for a country where guns are supposed to be illegal

British government blames music for shootings
    08:56 AM +1000, Jan 07 2003
Violent crime is continuing to rise in Britain (where 167 women are raped each day), despite strict gun laws and the increased use of cctv. So, following the shooting of two teenage girls, does it occur to the government to examine whether its policies of prohibiting self-defense and disarming victims has perhaps only increased the leverage of violent gangs?

No, they're too busy blaming music.

His comments come after Culture Minister Kim Howells said the deaths of two Birmingham teenagers were "symptomatic" of developments in rap and garage music.
Mr Howells attacked garage acts, like So Solid Crew, for "glorifying gun culture and violence" following the shooting of the young women after a party last week.

He said people should stand up to "idiot macho rappers".

    [...]

[BBC Radio 1Xtra DJ Iyare] said members of So Solid Crew carried guns not to glorify gun culture but to protect themselves.

"Rightly or wrongly, they feel threatened and need to protect themselves. They are kids from council estates and are targets for those making a beeline for them."

    [...]

[Radio 1 DJ Trevor Nelson] said those who attacked rap and garage music missed the point that gun culture was a social problem.

"I think it's wrong - it's an obvious problem. Anyone who goes into a club or who is young and on the streets of a city in this country knows there is a problem and is scared witless.

    [...]

Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur has criticised the garage industry for not doing more to combat gun culture.

    - BBC, Garage scene denies glorifying guns.

Meanwhile, Home Secretary David Blunkett hints ominously at music censorship, saying he plans to put the hard word on record labels.. but it's not censorship, honest.

Speaking on BBC Radio 2's Jeremy Vine programme, Mr Blunkett said there was a link between gun violence, Class A drugs and music.
He said: "I am not going to get into the issue of censoring.

"But I am concerned that we need to talk to the record producers, to the distributors, to those who are actually engaged in the music business about what is and isn't acceptable."

    - BBC, Blunkett targets gangster gun culture.

whats wrong with the term electroclash, do you like the term house ?

I definatley agree with you though jolyon
there are good electroclash records, i have some.
It will also open younger generations ears to classic stuff.

it's very fresh, new and has alot of influences from all kinds of music I like, the parties are a blast too, I went to the one in Miami at crobar and it was really fun.

Christopher - I'm not dissing the music at all - I think there's a lot of good stuff around if you look hard for it. I love electro and punk funk.

I don't like the term electro-clash because over here it's mixed in with a really stupid fashion thing and it was just another bandwagon for lazy music journalists and record producers to jump on. The word's become a bit of a joke over here, maybe it's different in the States.

The sad thing about some of the electro-clash nights in London is that it is not about the music. It's about poncing around in makeup pretending you and your mate are Boy George & Marilyn. The so-called hottest club in London at the moment is called Nag, Nag, Nag. I went and couldn't believe how bad it was, the DJing was terrible, the people weren't dancing they were posing. I think some of that scene over here is more about looking good than anything else.

Saying that: if there was a resurection of New Romantics.

Sureley, they would be listening to Electronica.

Electro was never really New Romantics thing really, ya can't do head spins to Japan

a lot of the music to me is actually really fun and a good time really. but i definatly have to agree that the hipster fashion trends that kind of blew up around the music are definately lame. the way the music got popular was kind of the it's downfall now apparently the hipsters are all dissing on electroclash.

I agree with Matthew - likewise, for the last year I've been buying more new wave disco/electro etc. It's exciting finding weird records.

since no one alse has answered your question.
NO, the Electro Revival is not big here in Chicago. if and when there are Electro events going on here you will mainly see hipster indie rock kids (who are just joining in on the latest fad) in the crowd rather than the heads.

Call it what you want, it does not bother me to hear the term Electro-Clash.
i do know that there is some really good shit out there though.

i know a lot of people hate on the Gigolo records roster cuz of there bling, bling lifestyles but in all honesty most all of the people on that roster are talented as ****.
do yourselves a favor, check em out.
that's assuming you have not closed your mind off to Techno, Electro, Industrial, and other mechanical sounding dance music styles.
I happen to love that shit so...

as i said in a previous thread,
look out for DJ. Hell's album later this year.
featuring on vocals, David Bowie, Alan Vega (Suicide), Grace Jones, & and Chicago's own Traxx.

also to look for on that label, when it is released later this year.

the full length album by Chicago's own
Traxx, Deecoy, & The Hyroglyphic Being, the collective better known as THE DIRTY CRIMINALS, TDC. i got a chance to hear them play songs from the album live over the weekend.
    SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
