I dug this. Then again, I love dark and twisted movies, so this may or may not be up your alley.

It definitely is, but it is highly entertaining. Lots of twists and turns throughout. Lots of gory scenes, too. Highly recommended.

    Netflix streaming AFTERSHOCK

The movie AFTER SHOCK, which goes back to July 28, 1976, The great Tangshan earthquake.

    Good movie Watch it.
In short, an earthquake hits and a brother and sister are stuck underneath a concrete slab. The mother can only save one. She then has to live with that decision for the rest of her life.
    yay!

If you've never seen it, I recommend "Buffet Froid".

French surrealism but not boring in a minute, crazy sentences, great acting, iconic french movie :

Also you might enjoy "Série noire" from Alain Corneau, my favorite french movie of all time, never seen so great acting, the scenario is so fucked-up in the head, the characters are as funny as pathetic, a must seen :
    Trailer (in french)

Full movie (with EN subs) :

Agree with War of the Arrows. Tops!

Saw District B13 a while back (French film) which I was totally floored by. Non stop action from beginning to end. Have to suspend reality in certain parts, but it an enjoyable flick from start to finish.

Just found out there iss a sequel, so will probably be checking that this weekend.

Ok, some french movies, recent or old that you may like, all based on the "Manouches" brand (slang word for gypsies):

Based on a true gang of gypsies and gangsters of all types:

    http://youtu.be/OqUzVJnNw70

"Va mourire" (Go to Heyl) is really hard to find and I doubt you'll get the subtitles, but it's worth the trip: filmed as an amateur, great portrait of 3 wannabe gangsters in Marseille who fuck up their lives in a week:

Les demons de Jesus ("Jesus demons") is also rare but if you can find it I'll be glad to create the subtitles for you. The drama and life of a band of gypsies surrounded by a couple of stupid policemen. If you liked Snatch, it's the original scream.
Full of great quotes like "I will fuck life in its ass with hate in my eyes."

Last but not least, Les grandes bouches ("Big mouthed ones") is a parisian gang of gypsies and broken faces all around.

    http://youtu.be/0ckBaidlTfY

And don't forget to wtach "White Cat, Black cat" after that.

    Here are 2 more:

    - Miss Bala, mexican movie where a future queen of beauty gets accidentally into a criminal group. Can't say more but the tension is gigantic and the screenplay beautiful.

    http://youtu.be/o5boX9ngglU

    - The Guard, Irish comedy with a great first role. Real new kind of humor, many clever stupidities per minute, a must see!
