    Compression /limiting

    Hey Dennis,
I read in an earlier post that you feel that compression is not needed on every track. I also read that Marshal jefferson rarely uses compression. I wanted to ask in which situations do you feel compression and / or limiting is needed.

It is not about what others are doing it is about what are YOU doing. Constantly mentioning what you feel are others faults show insecurity in self...

when amplitude peaks are disturbing ie:either the smoothness of a vocal (in which i prefer riding and automating a fader more so than comping) or as an effect ie: Your looking for a longer decay on a kick that has a short one...you can smash it..and it'll give you a tad more decay at the cost of other things of course.
