    Bouncing mixes to analog medium

    Hey Dennis,

Do you bounce your any of your mixes to adat, 4/8-track, etc... then bring it back to DAW? I've done this before for a specific effect/vibe/warmth, but was wondering if it's something you do on the regular or at all?

    Gracias,
    Carlos Mena

Nope don't have to do this because I'm using an Anamod ATS-1. I use this as an external fx inside of Nuendo. It comes up as a plug in and i insert it into whichever track i'm quite sure is finished in arrangement. I then render the track real-time through the plug-in/hardware fx. The ATS-1 is basically a hardware tape simulator. They've got that dead on if you ask me. Quite pricey but definitely worth the dough.

How does the Anamod ATS-1 fair next to an Empirical Labs Fatso (or a UBK Fatso)? Have you had the chance to compare the two?

    2 different animals.

I don't dig the fatso so much....

I love the fact that the anamod gives me different tape speeds...tape machines and tape type. Plus bias control, LF control and HF response. You add a knob for controlling tape hiss from nil to full blown and I don't see how they compare in all honesty. The ATS-1 is a beast.
Though I must admit i was less than pleased with just the factory cards. It's all about the optional ones. You HAVE to get them.

Cool. The ATS-1 sounds like a fantastic tool that does a better, more complete job of tape emulation. I guess the Fatso does the tape thing, but does not give you anywhere near the same amount of control or variety as the ATS.

    Thanks for your insight!
