choosing sounds or instruments that go well together

    Hey Dennis,

One of my issues is trying to pick two or three musical sounds that go well together and compliment each other. I can usually start off with one nice instrument like a rhodes piano but I guess I'm not not sure what other musical elements would be good to add and why.

Do you have any advice on this?

    Thanks,

    Frank

putting sounds that go together turns out to be a hit or miss affair. It takes a few years to begin to figure out the standards let's say in soulful house. Electronic/tech house and stuff like that takes that standard and throws that theory out the window. I kind of always like contrasting sounds....if i have a nice dark sound then i'm always looking for a edgier sound to come in and take the song up to another level. Think of putting sounds together like a well constructed collage that's all i can really say. It's all an experimental and taste kinda thing.
