Hear the remix in your head?

    Big ups DF. Respect.

We all know you've done (and still do I believe) your share of remix work....question is, can you hear the remix in your head before you even start a session for it? Or is it a WIP (work in progress) where the creativity comes as you go?

Just wanna know if it's just me. With me what happens is I listen to the source/original release and I can actually hear what it will sound like before I even sit down to work.

btw: You may hear from me soon.

Again, big ups, respect from Chicago.

btw: Check your inbox a little later, will hit you with a couple of things I've worked on. (And yes brother, I know you probably get alot of stuff sent your way but believe, you'll want to listen to what will be in your inbox shortly).

Again, big ups, respect from Chicago.

    Hey David,
Please refrain from sending Dennis tracks to listen to. It's the first rule in the "Read before posting" sticky:

    • Please do not ask the featured artist to comment or listen to your own work. The artists are kindly giving up their own time to check in to the forum. The focus should be on them.

    Peace,
    Ethan

Really wasn't aware there were rules applied to this Q & A...new one on me. I just dove headlong into the question. No worries though and certainly no deliberate disrespect to your Q & A. There are definitely other avenues one can take if they want to share their work. (initial Q&A thread edited).

It's a weird thing....If i hear the parts sometimes it'll come together in my head in an instant. Those are generally the good ones because they usually turn out finished just the way I heard it. Other times it's a total luck thing where i'm working and all of a sudden the idea just comes together after playing some chords and drums along with the parts....this is the lottery approach. LOL!

"you bust your ass to make all the money you can...thinking it solves shit...and then you realize..when and if you get there at all...you got more problems and you missed out on the one thing you can't buy or get back...your life! Spend time with friends and family...You can be broke in other ways too!...."

    Thank you for responding Dennis.

I do know a little bit about your background as it pertains to your work (i.e., your releases...."Church Lady" being me and my wife's favorite). However, I regret to say I don't really know too much about your beginnings but this is a non-issue as I will make it a point to look into your history as soon as I get a chance (If there is somewhere online that you feel is pretty accurate regarding your initial dj/producer history, please feel free to direct me).

I've been at this (remix/production) a little over a year and as has been the story of my life, it has been for the most part, a self-taught process. I don't know if it's because of this that it makes it twice as cool to learn that other remixers/producer's approach and the thought process that one applies to this craft, is practically identical.

Thanks again Dennis and please, feel free to reach out to me anytime.
