    Drink Beer!

    http://www.menshealth.com/men/nutrition/food-for-fitness/healthy-beer/article/a9ce8fec5d1b7110vgnvcm10000013281eac

Recent research has revealed bioactive compounds in beer that battle cancer, boost your metabolism, and more. And these benefits come on top of the oft-touted upsides of moderate alcohol intake: clot prevention, cleaner arteries, and reduced stress.

A 2003 FDA study found that 27 percent of barley and 32 percent of nonorganic wheat products carried pesticide residues. What's worse, a loophole in the USDA organic-certification standard allows pesticide-grown hops.

I stopped by Stone Brewery on Saturday for a growler fill of their 2010 Old Guardian. It was a nice barleywine style with a good balance between sweet & bitter. Booze was detectable but not overt--making for an easy to drink beer. I also picked up a couple bottles of their Triple and a Kern River Just Outstanding IPA.

Armen, you should look out for some Ballast Point Sculpin. Its making its rounds at bars/pubs and I think it's something you'd dig especially since it's a fresh batch.

It got a lot of hype in various magazines, high ratings etc. It was pretty good, not spectacular, decent. I was surprised to see that a tiny local shop around the block from me carries this and some other interesting stuff. Lots of microbrews around here, from Pennsylvania, Delaware etc.
