    FAO: Panklady IE: Weave

I like your comment on the Boogie Knight thread and I thought of if when...

I am watching a show on OWN, during the break, there was a commercial (ad) about hair weave.

    http://www.eindianhair.com/?gclid=CI...FQrt7QodCzRbGg

I am soooo glad the Natural Look is making a comeback. I remember when Black folk got all caught up in lables on Jeans, shoes & shirts. Some so caught up that they'd be at a club wearing shoes etc that cost more than their rent or carnote (if they are driving) as their bills went unpaid. Now it's hair????

The prices of this stuff is off the meter and the cost of getting it done? WOW!!!

It's a lot to go threw for a natural look of LONG hair, that at the end of the day says...it's not your hair, having the reciept don't count. I remember the Toni Braxton, Halle Berry, T-Boz short cuts that are very sexy IMO, but now its sew someone else hair in their own hair.

It's no secret that this is marked strictly to Black Woman and is a waste (money wise) because all the weave in the world is not going to repair any other issues that are going on.

Some Blackfolk and their intent to be - fill in Blank_______________________. I really hope that the natural look thing takes off and blow away the weave thing and Blackwomen stop getting duped. Blackwomen are famous for having the big shit that men like, Ass, Brest, Lips, Hips, Legs etc and plenty of non Black women are getting shots and who knows what the hell else to get them items as SOME Black women are going broke to have hair like a non Black woman has???

Bad Mama Jamma is a thing of the past I guess, that song had no lyrics about hair in it. Nor did the song Brick House.

I am wondering if this has come about because the - Stereo Type Successful Blackmen or professional athletes go get white wommens?

The thing that I am interested in is...since that hair is natural and knapp free, will black women be more aptd to go swimming, make love under a running shower, get their purchased hair wet?

I saw a fight at the club in Afghanistan and at the end up the night, the cleaning crew was sweeping up popcorn from the knocked over machine and pieces of weave

Blackmen were Conked out from the 1920's threw the 60's.
    Cab Calloway.

    Little Richard

    The Temptations etc, mad conk.

The Natural got large in the late 60's threw the 70's...until the blowout kit came along for bigger afros. Then somebody discovered a wet fro curled up but....hot to keep it that way? Ahh, the birth on the Jheri and 18 other curls took over in the 80's for most of that decade.

    This video is too much

Maybe this weave phase will be the end of Blackwomen using it like the 70's ended the popularity and use of the conk styles.

What are your thoughts on the wonderful world of weave?

"To weave or not to weave"...it's so much more complex than that. For me, I'm torn...and this may have to be continued for another day since it's a deeper issue than what it may present. If a woman chooses to wear weave it is her perrogative. Weaves should look and feel 'natural'...and don't forget about well done. One of my girls has one & it looks like some TUCP (Tangled Up Cat Figureitout). But if it makes her feel like a 'natural woman'...deaux yeaux beaux!

On one hand I feel that you should be able to wear what you want to 'enhance'. We don't knock folk who go out & get breasts, hips, lips, EYE LASHES (that blows me for real). *insert picture of the Muppet in the orchestra here* But on the other hand, do we show that we have a disdain for ourselves IFF we go out & get these 'enhancements'? Could be could be not. For instance, there's a woman I work with who is DRAMATIC and changes her hair daily...weave long, weave short, wig this, etc. She honestly uses weaves to 'create her look'. She is change...so it's not a hiding/shame thing for her. Hers is a 'full frontal' way of looking at life. *Insert name with minimum of four-syllables here* is wearing weave for a few reasons...and these are troubling to me: (1) hair mgmt gone bad as a child & not being able to grow hair & her edges are gone, (2) she wants to look like one of these video vixens, or (3) she's been bought up on the concept that 'black'/ethnic hurrrrrrrrrr is bad hair. Therefore, she can buy some 18" 1-B Yaki & make it hers. Meanwhile her 'kitchen is jumping' and looks nothing like what comes from her roots.

I've got another co-worker who we lovingly call Pocahontas...because she's Indian (from India & speaks Malayalam). Her hair is to her waist & I tell her I'mma take her to the hood and get some 'good money' for it. We LOL but there is an oz. of seriousness. Sistahs salivate over what her people have been selling to feed their families over in India, etc. And then what makes it so bad...sistahs (although we aren't the only ones) will not even think about where this 18" came from or what the circumstances might have been for them to get this Yaki on the back of their head. The way weave is discarded to me is what I find the most disrespectful. To me the easiest form of transference is via the head. That's why hairdressers have to have that 'good energy' or your a** will be bald-headed.

You hit upon something when you posted this:
"It's no secret that this is marked strictly to Black Woman and is a waste (money wise) because all the weave in the world is not going to repair any other issues that are going on."

If you don't love yourself & what the Creator gave you then no amount of sewing, gluing, crocheting, knotting, etc. will band-aid what the real issues are.

It's late for me...and hope that I'm making sense. I'll finish my comments tomorrow when I'm more coherent & can read for content/respond with clarity.

One last thing...remember Taylor Dayne's weave in "Tell It To My Heart"? I just had that image jump into my head.

    TBC. Good-night.

The weave won't stop anytime soon.

I've gone out of my way many times to compliment a lady who embraces her natural beauty, I get the nicest smile with each event.

    That's sweet.

And y'all stop calling these chicks out who have 'weaves'...if it is not your cup of tea let her do her...she ain't hurtin' you. Just don't step to her & try to hollar.

I have yet to see 'Good Hurrrrr' and not sure if I want to...maybe I'll break down...and Redbox it. Let me reserve judgment until I see it.

Meanwhile back at the club or down the street...the weaves 'grow' on.

LRR i think its a matter of personal choice.I dont feel like wearing a weave makes anyone anymore superficial and or phony than someone who doesnt wear one.It gives one the option to be versatile. As long as it is well kept and taken care of i say go for it if its your thing.I also dont feel as everyone who wears weave has some unresolved scars about beauty and more importantly black beauty and what it means.
