Folk said that Jimmy Hendrix fucked up the NA but I thought it was great!!!

He even emulated the sounds of combat during his version.

Yes, Christina fucked up the national anthem. I didn't even notice she flubbed the words because I was talking to someone while it went on. But all that running she was doing caught my attention to the point where I said "DAMN she's fuckin up!"

But that's because I know Christina's vocals and of all the singers out there today, if put to it she can sing anyone of them off the stage. She is one of only a handful of singers left that has actual mic technique (the art of pulling the mic
away from you when you use diaphragm and pull it close when you whisper) which you never see ANY modern singer do nowadays:

Go ahead and look up any other singer, say Mary J Blige, Beyonce, whoever, and you'll see they have absolutely no clue about how to control their own volume live; The mic doesn't move. it's basically a lost art that you won't see unless you watch somebody like Gladys Knight, Aretha, or Nancy Wilson. It's the sign of a true amateur that has learned their singing performance skills on the fly.

Yes, Christina screwed up the national anthem, but she's still a total professional in my book.

Some folks you better not pay first.

Marvin sang like he had been on a binge before he showed up to sing.

How it shows up in so many people's favorable memories, I have no idea. Folks go on as if it changed the face of modern music forever. Nonsense. It wasn't groundbreaking. It was embarrassing.

He got his check, ran out and cashed it, came back a couple hours later and phoned it in...lookin' high!

"Now Marvin Gaye...he did the anthem UP, y'all."

    Um...no.

This harsh post is not directed at you personally.

This is my take on it...for someone whom father is a former soldier...fucking up the National Anthem is equal to fucking up the ABC's song.

    Come the hell on!!!

She go hard as of the old stereotype Black female singers of old and for the most part, that hides her note drops / going off key as she trying to get her Mahalia Jackson on, plain and simple.

The pitchbend intro in the beginning...way way to early and if you listen to the song MINUS all of the accenting she does in her emulation of the old greats...listen to what happens at the 00:32 mark of the video. That ending note was so out of key that she could had saved that one. She went "Het" more than James Brown does in his songs but less than Black preachers do. "I was walking - Het...down the street...Het!

Not saying that she is not professional (this is how she earn a living so it is her profession).

Like Paul Mooney said "Everybody wanna be a nigger but nobody wanna be a nigger".

Do what one can do as of Black...sing etc without the stigma of being Black. It's not a new thing, been going on for years. It was just a thread about Elton John saying he feels part Black. That is about all she is doing, and doing it as if she has something to prove IMO.

I can see throwing in the soulful emotion adlibs while somebody sings but DAMN, she soul-libbed the whole damn song!!!

The Black singers you mentioned never went into soul OVERKILL like she do...keep it real!!!

Beyonce sang the same song live to a worldwide audience and she didn't get all crazy with the accenting, wtf? Christina trying to prove that she can sing that song better than Beyonce did or - she sings Black music as good or better than Black singers?

Anybody that take the last of above read as racist can kiss my ass because it is what it is.

I got one video I use as example of - singers feeling it, LIVE AND UNPLANNED whereas Christina is doing it just because and under ideal condidtions....

And let's not forget she sang the song LIVE. The infamous Whitney Houston rendition was pre-recorded as most have been since then, including Jennifer Hudson. Aside from the lyric fuck-up, I loved Christina's rendition.

Well, she's not white, if that's what you're implying. She's Latina.
