Not at all. In each instance I was defending not the "some" per se but defending my statement that some have will strong enough to overcome it. You'll have to go back to each statement to see what I mean.

What would you say to the theory that each individual person has an equivalent amount of "willpower" and the key thing that differs and influences their recovery or failure is genetic disposition ?

I would say that could very well explain why not everyone in that position can overcome via willpower alone.

Charlie Sheen said, The Last time he got high, he banged out a 7gram rock and finished it! He thinks he's winning! He took the urine test on the show and passed it.

He also states that he has conquered his addiction.... I would say that is will power, but also in the same breath if he didn't stop he would be dead!

A 7 gram rock will stop your heart, end of story! Bottom line anyone who has ever dealt with addiction and has survived I give mad props to...

Rather 12 steps or self love for yourself. There is a percentage of our brothers and sisters who have indulged who has not made it..JUST SAY NO!

I think certain people are pre-disposed to wanting to get fucked up. Not sure whether its genetic or based on environmental (home life factors).

I myself must admit that i have an addictive personality but i love myself and in loving yourself the path we take is dealt on choices!

The more money an addict gets or shall I say hustle's up, the more the drive that person gets to get's higher It's like a goal that has to be achieved ....It's really sad but to each his or her own.....

I myself personally am a better person without the additives and preservatives!

Very intresting debate, conversation taking place here. I have one thing to say, Untill you are an addict, you dont know what it is like. Not every one is an addict. some can use drugs on a recreational basis, you cannot judge the desease of addiction by their experience, they are not addicts.

I am going to reveal something that some of you know, and some dont. Today marks my 6 years clean date. I have been free of the use of drugs for 6 years, BUT I am not free of the desease of addition, nor will I ever be. recovery is an ongoing process for the rest of my life. What I can tell you as an addict is, ALL DRUGS ARE BAD Period. I cant drink or smoke weed,even though neither one of those things are my drug of "choice", I know that using either would be a gateway to worse things if I choose to think that I can have a cocktail, or hit a blunt.

We can speculate if the pictures show in this thread are the results of drug use and the lifestyle that revolves around it or not. I KNOW what I looked like 7 years ago, and it was VERY simular to those pictures if not worse. I for one continue to pray for them and all the Charlie Sheen's,Witney Houston's, and El Debarge's in the world. Because aside from money and fame, I am just like them. I know that prayer works. but the KEY is surrender and getting help and dedicating myself to STAYING clean one day at a time.

I am grateful for a chance to remain clean and learning everyday how to live life without the use of drugs. I will continue to pray for the addicts that still suffer, and the ones that dont even know they are addicts. The desease of addiction is incidious,cunning,baffling and powerful. For those that dont know it, could NEVER understand it. Be glad you are on the outside looking in because inside is a horror NO ONE wants to experience.

I would like to congratulate you on your journey... I myself have journeyed a road that by the grace of my Lord and savior and Self will keep me from traveling down that Rocky path ever again.

I would also like to say to you that you are not an addict anymore you are a survivor and these words of love come directly from my spiritual heart!

We deem to be what we choose ourselves to be, You do not need the blunt or the drink to feel your bliss...You have the blessing of the MUSIC!

I for one respect you to the fullest in all that you do...The Mind of an idle person tends to lead them into many directions, but one for sure is not to a path of destruction.

My first NA meeting that i have ever attended, i had to stand up and say,"Hi my name is Anthony i am an addict!

I went to this program because the State wanted me to but it was my will not to do, or destroy my body in that fashion....

You are a winner and an over achiever.... Never an addict again.

Ive been clean since the beginning of the year, never thought Id quit weed even though it was taking its toll on me. Ive started dreaming again at night after all these years, I suppose when I was blazed in a haze I was in dream state though wide awake. I can see the physical and mental changes already, but one thing I know is that this gateway drug stuff doesnt apply to all..I know people that died from Heroin, so I was smart enough to never try anything processed. If youre gonna do coke and pills n shit you were going to do them anyway, right.

Not necessarly, I smoked weed for years hell, decades before I expermented with harder drugs. One ended up being my NEW drug of choice and it took me through and to hell. I didnt know that I was an addict when I was "just" smoking weed and drinking, but I was, I just hadnt found the drug that would lead me to my bottom. Weed and Alcohol are definately gateway drugs for addicts. Addiction hits diffrent people diffrent ways, but the end is the same if nothing is done about it.

Congrats on you decision to stop smoking weed, and reconizing that it was doing something to you and it was not in your best intrest to continue. I wish you ongoing success in your recovery.

I wouldn't like to go the route of Eugenics, with the "born this way"

Go to any far flung tribe and you will find them all practising some form of getting high and the cities are no different.

I'de say shamens etc is all about connecting with the natural world that they have no answers for. And it's been going on since the beginning of mankind.

To me it's about replacement, you have to replace an addiction with something else, and not another addiction. Some people are addicted to the worship of god, the physical effects are non but the mental affects may be heavy, some people get addicted to sport and lose all their friends in persuit of gym time, some people are addicted to control, some are addicted to giving, some to taking, it's not easy to sum up in a tidy post all the same.
