More School Bus Drama whats the call?

Mother Storms School Bus in Florida and Slaps Child in Mouth

After being told by her 6-year-old daughter that a boy hit her, 29-year-old Ticora Daniels (pictured) stormed on to a Broward County, Fla., school bus and slapped the boy's hands from his mouth.

Caught on surveillance video, the visibly upset Ms. Daniels is seen saying:

    "Don't touch my child. I don't give a f**k."

Share When the bus driver refused to allow Daniels to leave because he was radioing in the incident, Daniels' agitation grew:

"Let me off this f--kin' bus," she screamed.

Daniels was arrested Tuesday and charged with burglary with assault or battery and child abuse without great harm.

"Yeah, my daughter hit the kid -- wouldn't you have?" Daniels' mother told NBCMiami.

Well, at least we know where Daniels gets it from.

When Daniels appeared in court on Wednesday morning, Judge John Hurley was empathetic, yet firm:

"I can understand as a parent, somebody abusing your child and you're gonna go on the bus," he said. "But in this case, the court has to follow the law."

"Emotionally, my heart goes out to your client, but legally, I have to follow the law," the judge told Daniels' lawyer.

Daniels, who was on probation for driving with a suspended license, claims she got on the bus in the first place because she did not want the boy, who allegedly has had trouble in the past, to hit her daughter.

I could give a politically correct opinion of this buffoonery, but I won't. I see nothing wrong with a mother defending her child. If anyone ever so much as laid a finger on my children, it would take all my willpower not to immediately react instinctively, and I can't honestly say what that reaction might be.

Storming a public school bus full of children and then slapping a child's hand out of his mouth, though, is nothing short of ignorant.

Ms. Daniels had ample time to process the situation; yet, the only response she could muster was bullying a 7-year-old boy? Calling the police, notifying the school and parents and demanding the boy be suspended are all effective actions she could have taken.

From bullying to high-jackings to collisions and gun fire, school buses have gained notoriety for not being the safest place for our children. Now, we also have to be concerned with mothers bogarting their way on board and then physically assaulting our children?

Call me old fashioned, but I believe that violence begets violence.

How can we teach our children not to be bullies, when we, as parents, show them that it's acceptable to use force to solve our problems? Daniels clearly did not approach that situation as if she were dealing with a child - she looked and sounded like she was about to go fight another adult.

Though it probably made her feel powerful, putting her hands on that child was a completely selfish action. The young boy walks away from that experience embarrassed, and a young boy with something to prove can be a dangerous thing.

Bullying a child does not make someone a good mother, and showing a child that you're willing to use violence to validate your love for them is unhealthy on many levels. With the excessive news coverage of the incident and her mother's arrest, this could prove to be a pivotal learning lesson for Daniel's daughter.

Ms. Daniels also has the opportunity to not only show her daughter what behavior is appropriate to exhibit, but also what behavior to expect in return. Hopefully, she seizes it, but I doubt it, because she just "doesn't give a f--k."
