    Heres hs post.

    Hi Folks

I got a v.short questionnaire for the research section of my A level project (in which I`m redesigning the interior of the ministry of sound)
when you answer could you please copy and paste the questions and add either a Y/N or your response.

Thank you very much in advance.

    --these are the questions--

Do you think the interior is actually important in you having a good time, and the club being a success?

Do you think that a 2000 capacity is sufficient?

Do you think that 4 bars and dancefloors is enough. should there be?

    less
    same
    more
    (delete as appropriate)

Do you think the DJ booth should be above the crowd?

If you`ve got a bit more time, write whatever you want in this section.

What ruins a club interior in your opinion
(even if you`ve never seen it yourself, something that would really ruin a good night )

What would you personally want in your ideal club?(you are allowed to invent things if you want, just think of your ultimate dream club, money is no object)

What is the best club interior you have ever witnessed? and why?

    Many Thanks

pay attention to acoustics, pay attention to the needs of the dancers, get a wooden floor, preferably with some cushion under the wood.

make the dance floor the central focus of the club, when people are not dancing they like to watch the dancers, good luck

Club w/ plenty parking. Sound in Club set up a Soundman that understands Dance Music sound variables pref a Dj w/Acoustics exp. Dimly Lit Dancefloor so you can appreciate lights. Chill out areas, Cheap drink nights and a Club Owner who understands the role of a Dj who can distinguish a Good Or Bad Club Dj and who give him total control of the entertainment.

Don't have time to answer all the questions, but I will say that I think Endup in San Francisco has one of the best club designs I've seen. The main dance floor is rectangular and slightly elevated with walking space along one of the long sides and glass doors that lead to a outdoor courtyard on the other side. At one short end is the DJ booth and at the opposite end there is a lounge area and more space to dance. I really like this design because there are many places where people can get off the dance floor without having to cross in front of or bump into people who are trying to dance. You can exit the floor from the doors that lead outside and walk around through the lounge area behind the dance floor, or you can simply step down to get to the bar. A very smart setup, IMO.

I don't think the DJ booth needs to be elevated.

I like good design, but if the music and the crowd is right, I could have a good time dancing in someone's garage.

I've been to the Ministry twice and I liked the fact that the decorations and interior configuration were different each time I was there. I also liked that it was sectioned off into rooms, which, to me, made the space seem more intimate. I don't like the feel of a cavernous space with hundreds of people in one room and one DJ playing for all. At the Ministry there were at least three different rooms (maybe four) with different DJs when I was there a few years back.

    Hope that helps some.
I love myself when I'm dancing.

Do you think the interior is actually important in you having a good time, and the club being a success?

absolutely. whatever the interior design is (even if it's just "raw") defines the initial energy in the space when people come in.

Do you think that a 2000 capacity is sufficient?

Personally, I think that's too many people. If you're going to have that much room, divide it and keep rooms closed when the club is empty. Normally, I would say room for 500 - 1000 is more than enough.

Do you think that 4 bars and dancefloors is enough. should there be?

less - damn, what are you building, Madison Square Garden?

Do you think the DJ booth should be above the crowd?

The booth should be close to the floor but slightly elevated - the DJ should be able to turn off the monitor and still really hear what it sounds like on the floor.

[b]If you`ve got a bit more time, write whatever you want in this section. [b]

One of the best things you can do if you're planning on designing a space is to make the rooms different and make use of whatever outdoor space (roof, decks, etc) you can.

What ruins a club interior in your opinion
(even if you`ve never seen it yourself, something that would really ruin a good night )

Tacky people (and furniture), bad room accoustics, nasty bathrooms (especially nasty bathrooms - the ladies WILL NOT COME if the bathrooms are nasty).

What would you personally want in your ideal club?(you are allowed to invent things if you want, just think of your ultimate dream club, money is no object)

A great, clear sound system. Comfortable chill rooms. Inexpensive drinks. Great music. Outdoor space. No drama (security, coat check, etc.) and an affordable cover.

What is the best club interior you have ever witnessed? and why?

I really loved Red Zone because of the balcony overlooking the massive main floor, and the simplicity with which the space was designed. I would say Cielo in NYC is really well designed, and Sound Factory Bar was a well designed space (back in the day, not Cheetah by any means). Twilo, the End Up, the World... there are really too many to name. Zanzibar was certainly interesting from a decorative point of view, too.

    Many Thanks

    Cheers!

If you (or at least someone you know) doesn't know every person attending your party, then it's too many people. Just my opinion.

One bar is sufficient and the dancefloor should be large enough to accommodate the patrons at the club with enough personal space to dance freely.

It really shouldn't matter, but for safety reasons I would keep the booth above the crowd. It would also keep unwanted people from doing other mishaps that could ruin the party (i.e. people bumping into the turntables, people stealing records, people distracting the DJ, etc.).

Overuse of lighting, smoke machines, and laser shows are the biggest peeves for me. I prefer minimal lighting and very little (if any) use of the smoke machine.

It would be like a home. I'd have it filled with couches, tables, comfortable chairs, minimal lighting, drapes, candles, paintings of local artists to showcase their talent, incense (ONLY Nagchampa!), clean and personalized bathrooms with an attendant, free food and drinks (except alcoholic), and promo CDs from the DJs that play that night.

Candleabra w/ Tony Largo plus guests (Los Angeles) circa early '90s. Too many reasons why I thought of it as the best party and I don't wanna get into it.

    Good luck with your club!
