I could run circles around any of you cats with respect to theories upon the influence of secret societies upon the mass populace, but I grew up and stopped spending time in Afrocentric bookstores.

I've partook in so many alternative spiritual practices and was concocting my own holistic health treatments back when I was 17.

I've also been a qualified professional and constructive member of society my whole life.

So you guys are 2 out of 3. Put the pipe down and ease off the SciFi channel once in a while and you'll get there.

You cats barely know US history, wanna pop off about world history. Don't know the roots of the religions you practice, wanna debunk someone else's.

Get goin'. You're needed in one of the 9/11 Truther threads.

    Snot noses.

I grew up Roman Catholic and remember getting lost in vatican square once. All organized religions are basically cults but it gives people meaning and purpose. I'm sure a lot of church goers have their doubts but it's tradition, something to do.

yeah, totally. but i feel as though people should have more faith in themselves and others. that's a different idea for another day.

my point in all of this and i'm still very much sticking to this, religious groups..cults..or what have you... go and do your thing..enjoy it..educate others on your beliefs...do it up. but do not change society to fit your mold. do not force yourself onto others.

artistic and educational explosions are happening all around us... let them happen. tell the full story and let the people decide.

    love love.

    peace.

ps. also, make the darn sequels to the movie, The Golden Compass...cos the first one was so badass!

what you failed to point out is that The Golden Compass fucking sucked and that's the only reason there is no sequel

The religious outrage angle is some second hand reaction from a couple of actors in the cast. Public outcry from religious types was added fuel to the fire to make the decision to stop the franchise after the first film. It didn't make enough money to justify the hassles with production and, true to Hollywood, they predicted additional films would lose money. It made money in the EU, but had disappointing box office in the US. They sold the non-Domestic rights off to finance production so it lost money for New Line Cinema. A lot of money.

A simple Google search could have revealed all of this, but why bother, when you can start a religion thread on tha P?

Catholic groups called to take the film on a "wait and see" approach. The most the Vatican came out on the film was a review in a Vatican newspaper calling the film "godless."

in November 2007, a review of the film by the director and staff reviewer of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' Office for Film and Broadcasting appeared on the website of the Catholic News Service and in Catholic newspapers across the country. The review suggested that instead of a boycott, it may be appropriate for Catholic parents to "talk through any thorny philosophical issues" with their children.[50] However, on December 10, 2007 the review was removed from the website at the USCCB's request.[51] On December 19, 2007, the Vatican newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano, published an editorial in which it denounced the film as godless.[52]

    that ain't saying much, sadly

it's incredible how much we have collectively lowered our standards
I mean, I willfully pay $11.50 on a regular basis for something I fully expect to suck
I will go see Xmen 4 and undoubtedly get the same result

well, at least we agree it was a cool flic. i don't think what i started here is nonsense at all. my last note summarizing my view can't be knocked...that's where i'm coming from. i don't have the time to do so much research...hence, starting a discussion about it. thanks for the book report.
