... rest of the story is Dad worked his ass off ... met his wife (sharecropper from Mississippi, who headed up to CT alone as well, around the same time, rested at the YWCA & blazed her path) ... they fucked a lot and had 2 childrens

Dad got his BS in 1976 and MBA in 1980 (from University of Hartford, nightschool for both tours) - Mom used to toss us in the back seat of the jalopy w/ blankets and pillows to go get him in the evenings

... then it was her turn - she graduated from UConn the same year (1981) as my older brother graduated from High School

A simple item that I refer to, whenever I think times are rough for me

Shortly after, both of the parents passed ... the 19yr old went to Birmingham w/ wife & the 10 year old girl (that's all they could support/handle) ... the 17 and 15yr old got bus tickets and headed to Connecticut by themselves, for a better life - they set up camp at the YMCA Hartford, and the rest is on-going history

The 15 year old is my Dad

Just back from lunch w/ Dad - a pre-Father's Day meetup, since I won't see him next wknd

... and bitter-sweet, b/c his brother (the 19yr old mentioned above) died late last night after long struggle w/ various illnesses
