Guess this is a good time for my yearly statement:

There is no unity in house music. Never has, Never will!

Miami nightlife always been more about "glitz and glamour" and all the trappings than about "the music." You either try to build a small more "music and dance" oriented scene recognizing that it will always be very small, or you move some place that is more supportive of what you are doing.

As long as the sex isn't being sold to kids, which of course relates to mainstream music nowadays, kids listening to some fucked up lyrics and looking at some proper slappers gyrating in a slaggy fashion, Lady gaga, Rhianna etc etc etc etc. That should be the concern.

If adults want to act like VIP strippers whilst listening to some nonsense GeUTTA shit, actually, that's mainstream as well, errrm if they want to listen to Jay Z feat timbaland featuring Kanye West, featuring pitbull featuring kelly rowland featuring Paris Hiltons cunt, errrrrm if they want to listen to trance, actually all the trance heads are trying to make stuff like metro area did in 1999...urrrrrrm, graaaim (Properly pronounced:- Grime)which is rave remarketed, and rave was only the party never the music anyway, urrrrm if they want to listen to the shit where people show armpits whilst whooping like idiots AKA un-original over-marketed nonsense.

Again perhaps a UK perspective, people invented their own dance, and didn't have to dance a certain way, there was an element of freedom, "house dance", do what the fuck you want to be honest, freedom, nobody cared, it wasn't step dancing, or some competition approved circle.., line dance, or ballroom, that was the point, you could do anything, it's wasn't a spectator sport, do what you do, end of story.

    It aint fucking Zumba

(which btw, is jammed down your throat via your televisual box..which is exactly the sex being sold you speak of......look like the instructor, you want to fuck him her, you want to look like him or her so you can get fucked, and around we go..... marketing and sex, buy your tits, get zumba arse and electro abs so all you plastic motherfuckers can resemble ken and barby)

    tl:dr

we get what youre saying, we love your spirit, just brush up on the history books
dunno if youre some sort of "born again" religious person being a resident of Salt Lake City but to view SEX as a negative aspect to what David Guetta/SHM or anyone in the house music field is promoting is looking upon this whole thing in the wrong perspective

    good luck with your ventures

ps. read up on merengue as well. as fun as it is, its origins are not that pretty

I'm an atheist. I also enjoy sex as much as the next guy. I just happen to have a more dance-centric connection to House Music than maybe most people, so that's the angle I push. It's not "SEX = BAD, DANCE = GOOD"...it's just "SEX = NOT THE POINT OF THE MUSIC...DANCING IS". That's my reality and it's the one I believe in.

Sex sells, which is why commercial pop music leans on sexual undertones to sell itself to the masses, but I think that's a shortsighted approach in the long term and does more to help the music publishers' pockets than the culture itself.

Good luck to you as well. By the way, I live in Miami now and the culture is just as small here proportion-wise as it was in Salt Lake. I consider that to be, again, a failing of the messaging, not a failing of the music.

For the record, to the (several) people who made jabs at Salt Lake City above: SLC has a small but thriving underground House Music scene of talented Deep, Soulful, Latin, Tribal, Minimal, Tech, Funky, Jacking, French, and Disco House DJs, some of which have been banging out the music since the 80s on local radio and others of which have long-running residencies that have brought out guys like Mark Farina, Jay Tripwire, Victor Simonelli, Julius The Mad Thinker, Doc Link, Stan Zeff, Sean Biddle, Hector Romero, Sean Miller, Benji Candelario, Willie Graff, Tedd Patterson, Ceballos, and literally dozens more through the past few years alone. I'm proud to have discovered House Music culture there and proud to have learned from DJs that could go head-to-head and toe-to-toe with those of any other city.

    Brass Tacks:
    1. When you say you have a more dance-centered connection than most...which sounds a little arrogant, btw...who exactly is included in "most"?

    2. When you talk about SHM and Guetta, you are talking about a specific strain of dance music that appeals to a specific demographic. What demographic are you interested in? The same one? Define, for us, your sense of that demographic vs the one you are trying to reach if they aren't the same.

    3. You don't talk about the realities of finding venues in which to have events and being able to meet the economic needs of all the entities behind the scenes: dj, promoter, club owner, city zoning boards, etc. Talk some about how this demographic you have in mind will manage to satisfy those needs.

But that's not reality. House began in the early-mid 80's (depending on which date you choose to go with), not in 2007, and surprisingly, not in Salt Lake City, although we thank them for their contributions. Alot of the music was VERY SEXUAL and so was the dancing.

People actually danced with ONE ANOTHER back then.

Listen to the lyrics from Hercules "7 Ways" - that should provide some clarity......JMJ
