Anyone with a considered knowledge of US house music will no doubt be familiar with Abacus thanks to his releases on labels as wide reaching as Prescription and Guidance. Last seen sharing space with Chez Damier on a 12" last year, Abacus returns with some long overdue new material and we have Kai Alce's imperious NDATL imprint to thank. It's typically high concept stuff with Abacus dropping a 15 minute expansive reimagination of "Bang The Djembe" by percussion genius I: Drum which expertly slips through the gears, introducing granite stabs, breathless trumpet and subtly effective acid lines along the way. The B Side is our favourite however, with "Welcome To The Party" drawing out classic Abacus analogue lines over a simple yet effective drum funk groove.
