Wow. Great pics. Seems strange now that I think about it, I have never seen photos of the canals in Amsterdam frozen over. I also love the shots I've seen of snow falling over the Roman Coliseum. We've barely even had a winter here in NY.

I'm jealous! I love cold weather and love, Love, LOVE snow!

Here in Detroit, we've only had a few instances of snow (usually just a dusting), but it always melted the next day. We haven't even had a high daily temperature below freezing in almost two weeks (and many days of 50+ degree weather).

Even at Mt. Baker in the state of Washington, which averages 641 inches of snow per season, only has an 184 inch snowpack. It's just a bad year for snow in North America.

    :(

Winter last year was hardcore, from Novemeber onwards. This year, up until now, it's been mild. Had the first real snow last Saturday and coldest night of year tonight, down to weather front from the east. I can't wait until spring, not long now

Apart from the last week or so, the winter has been ridiculously mild in Europe this year. Right now though we have around -18°C at night, -14°C into mid-morning, and highs of maybe -9°C. No snow though. Elsewhere in the country there've been nighttime record temperatures beyond -30°C. And apparently around 300 people have so far died because of cold weather across the continent.

Homeless people mainly, or does it hit also people with a roof?

Here it's the homeless that are in greatest danger. There are a few accidental deaths, like going out on ice too early. The bulk of deaths are however in Eastern Europe, and there I don't know offhand whether it's due to greater destitution, whether they lack infrastructure or are running out of heating material. It's a lot colder over there as well.

It's not been too bad in London. The snow melted after a day, and though it's been pretty cold since, it's nothing like continental Europe - particularly eastern. Don't know if it'll get worse before it gets better, but we're halfway through February. Spring will be here soon.

Glasgow has been snow free. Very unusual.

I'm dreaming of Spring but have this niggling feeling its going to be snatched away from us.

the 2 berlin deaths i have read about were elderly who were found a stones throw from their homes.

im sure there will be a body or 2 floating in the rivers and canals once spring comes, but those are generally suicides or bad luck with thin ice.

2 years ago, we had crazy snow(well, for us) for new years, and it was funny to uncover all the spent fireworks several times over several months before the snow finally thawed.

i just bought some cheap safety goggles so i can continue to bike ride when it snows.
