Pretty good vid. I'm well beyond the years where I would need the dexterity, strength and speed to do some "footwork" but I like watching juke dancers. However, not terribly crazy about the "beats" -- the music sounds too canned, too simple (I don't hear the same level of "creativity" that some of the producers and jocks in the video heard). I thought it was funny that Juke parties were being banned because of "booty" shakin' -- no different than hip hop parties, and they don't ban them.

I won't say I found main tracks on Dancemania, like good tracks from 0:01 to end, but there are a lot of joints you can pull behind to give more presence to your mix (rhythms/basslines).

Not fillers, let's say background moods, Paul Johnson did a lot of great stuff. They can add a great hypnotic vibe, or you can have fun with the fader.
Dancemania and Dj Funk were very sought after in 96 in Paris, it was the main vibe for like 1 year in the gay clubs.

i'de pretty much go with what you say there. As a fan of what was known as Electro here in the UK at the time (Juan Atkins, Newcleus, Hashim....), through to house, acid, techno, and loved and played Stevie Poindexter, i didn't really get most of this stuff, like everything I suppose some better than others. Liked some Detroit stuff like DJ Assault, but probably couldn't listen to hour upon hour of it. House on +8, that was pretty much done at the arse end of the rave era in the UK, house just got faster and faster until it became chipmunky and silly and eventually turned into happy hardcore. In terms of the dancing, difficult no doubt, but perhaps not as finely tuned as those jazz dancers you saw here, I say jazz dancers, but you'de see dancing to electro like say.... cybertron - "clear" or newcleus - push the button, it seemed to be more to the music, to the drops, to the bass etc.... where as the music seems to be going a bit quicker than the dancers in juke., perhaps the dancing would be better if the music was slower, but then I suppose it would be what we saw in the 80's anyway. Yet still Stye over substance IMHO, marketing before the music. I suppose it keeps the kids busy

The ghetto tracks were the first house tunes that really made a dent in the countryside around chicago in the early / mid 90s. They crossed over to the macho mainstream so much easier than the more disco/soulful/gay sounding tracks. Many very underground ghetto tracks were big hits in the small town dance bars, teen clubs and titty bars. They fit right in with the early rap, metal, industrial, and commercial dance music at the time. Big respect; these tunes opened me up to what was going on on the more soulful dancefloors in chicago, NY and beyond. ...and they still work today.

Go to the 19 minute mark and hear the truth about SPINELESS Chicago radio and it's promoters. WGCI KILLED House Music in Chicago and thursty ass promoters looking for success in promotion followed their lead. I was offered the opportunity to play the Drive At 5 mix on that station and when I was told No House Music...I walked away! Unlike some other DJ's in Chicago, I have a real job and playing music was always a hobby so I could always afford to play by my own rules.

Here is a Juke Track that never came out on wax or CD, just this youtube video,
