It's so strange to be supporting the right wing here in Russia, while I am way on the left in the U.S. The political formation is completely different.

Btw, in this "extremely undemocratic" country I will have a choice between 5 candidates! It sure beats having 2 options in the U.S. elections.

there are 4 choices in the republican primary right now. That's down from 9. Additionally, there are Minor party candidates on the ballot during the general election

Oh Danny....its funny, every single Russian I know is sick at this election and at Russia's inability to build a civil society. And all of them know that Prohorov is only straw man candidate, set up and accepted by Putin because he makes the election appear somewhat democratic when it is not.

How many Russians do you know? See, my point is that the level of democracy here is at least on a similar level as in the U.S. You know Russians who travel abroad and have a certain view of the world. In America, these kind of people would not vote for Bush, or almost any other Republican. Yet, at least half of the population, and sometimes more, votes for these people. It's the same in Russia. Putin is the centrist republican in the Russian political spectrum. No liberal, progressive person supports him or would vote for him. But the majority of the Russian people, who live in provincial Russia really do support him. They are as brainwashed as Americans in the Midwest and the South.

And the people who dislike Putin don't seem to dislike him enough to do anything about it. For example, there have been many protests and demonstrations allowed by the government in recent months, but there are not enough people who go to these events. People are living too well to go out on the street and protest.

Danny, we know you are going to vote for Putin in the end. The Russian people need a hard man, at least most of them. Cheers for that. Russia does not have the same level of democray as the US becuase the Russian is generally not in a place mentally to accept that he or she really matters. Beyond the super-rich of course.

I hear NATO is going to invade from the West and China from the East. Have fun with that.
