The much debated Prometheus will be hitting theatres this June. As the premier date draws ever closer the debates over whether or not Prometheus is an Alien prequel are becoming more heated. It was all speculation until the official trailer was released. Now Fans of the original Alien franchise are feeling like they’ve just been proven correct in their assumption as they compare the Prometheus trailer and the original 1979 Alien trailer.

Filmsite.hu recently released an article regarding the Prometheus/Alien connection. Unfortunately the article is written in Hungarian, so for those who cannot read the article, I’ll give you the rundown. Basically, Filmsite is stating that the only connection between Prometheus and Alien is a large company present in “the future.” A quote given by director Ridley Scott about the connection is as follows; “When the first ‘Alien’ movie and ‘Blade Runner’ were made, I thought that in the near future the world will be owned by large companies. This is why we have the Tyrell Corporation in ‘Blade Runner’, and Weyland-Yutani in ‘Alien’. They sent the Nostromo spaceship. The Prometheus is owned by an entrepreneur called Peter Weyland, and is played by Guy Pearce. That’s the connection between the two films, and nothing more. Prometheus is a new film, a new world, and is full of new ideas. And of course new monsters as well.”

The trailer for Prometheus makes the film looks pretty awesome and if you’re especially in to aliens and the great unknown that is space then the movie is definitely one to see, but fans are still saying Prometheus is indeed a prequel to Aliens. If you have the ambition to find the original Alien trailer and compare it to Prometheus you may catch a few things that would suggest that the movie has ties to the 1979 film. For example, the huge horseshoe shaped vessel you see at about 54 seconds into the Prometheus trailer appears in Alien. It would bethe derelict ship sending out the unknown signal. As well, the Weyland-Yutani corporation is present, as Mr. Scott has already admitted to, and there is an incredibly brief – and I’m talking about a 1 second glimpse here – of a lab setting where it appears that the mask of the “space jockey” found in Alien is sitting on the lab table in Prometheus. You really have to look for that one, it appears in the trailer at 35 seconds in.

So, while Ridley Scott denies, denies, denies, I think the connection between the two movies is greater than he wants us to believe. Prometheus stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba and Guy Pearce and guess what, they’re a team of scientists and explorers sent out on a thrilling journey that will test their mental and physical limits. They end up stranded on a distant world where they will discover the answers to life’s ultimate questions but are they answers they really want? Make the decision for yourself as to whether Prometheus is an Alien prequel after seeing it in theatres June 8th.

my bet is not a prequel, certainly common elements, if it were intended as a prequel they would be playing up that angle to capture more market demographic, but, you got space jockey, horse-shoe craft, AI robots, and alien eggs, so....who cares, lisbeth salander in space is gonna be bananas enough

Weyland enterprises is in Prometheus, so if its not a prequel than it would be a bizarre choice.

Totally worth it for the visual experience IMO. I saw it in IMAX 3D and loved it (visually).

The plot? Well... it's a mess. But it looks so good, you don't really care until it's over and you're discussing it with your friends and everybody's like "yeah... about this or that... WTF?!".

I saw it last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you go into this movie with its predecessors in mind, you will be disappointed. With that said, I had a blast. This is not a direct prequel to the Alien series. As already stated by Ridley Scott, same DNA, different story. Considering the ending of Prometheus suggests a sequel, the outcome of later films may lead to an actual connection to the 1979 film.

For me, I wasn't expecting to be scared out of my seat. I was thrilled and engaged throughout the entire film. It serves it's purpose, and so does Alien. This is pretty much the warning shot of what's to come and that is Ridley's 1979 masterpiece. They were warned, and Kane gave birth because some corporation couldn't mind it's business. That's Alien.

I had no issues with the dialogue and I don't know why people are complaining about it, yet they can recite every line from Bill Paxton's character Hudson from Aliens?

Fassbender was on point. To me, it was as if he was playing Peter O'Toole, coupled with the fact that there are references to Lawrence Of Arabia found in the film.

Noomi Rapace played her part. She is not a Ripley wannabe, that's not her purpose.

Idris Elba, only complaint about his role was his really bad southern accent. Other than that, he's the man. Some people said he was hardly in the film, bullshit.

Charlize Theron, probably the weakest link in the entire film. She really had no purpose but to be an overseer of the expedition, and quite honestly, Fassbender's character David had more input, but I won't give away that part if the film.

Again, I had a great time, loved the visuals, some small references to its predecessors, but that's it. If there's a directors cut to be released in Blu Ray, I'm all in.

I agree with all of that
Fassbender was fantastic and the dialogue didn't bother me

My beef is with the retarded behavior of the crew of "scientists", and the many many holes in the plot (to me, at least), but I suppose we need an official *SPOLIERS* thread to discuss that

but like I said, none of that really bothered me while I was watching it. It was more after the fact.

I'm still trying to figure out where are the plot hole. Because i don't link this film to the Alien series, the story for me at least was fluid. They are not in LV-426. The crashed ship is not the same from Alien and Aliens. But yea, if there is a spoiler plugin for this site,I would be more than happy to use it.

Reading through some of those comments on the link you provided. Some people get it and some people don't. They don't because they are trying at this point in time to directly link Prometheus to Alien. Right now, you have an oil and vinegar situation.

I disagree. I think the lack of a direct link to Alien is the least of its issues.
There was just too many actions of the crew, the robot, Weyland, the engineers, etc that just don't add up to a logical story. It felt very all over the place to me.

For me, I'm curious as to why the Engineer became enraged when David attempted to communicate with it. I hope this will be explained in a Sequel, which I read is supposed to be called "Paradise". Weylan was probably looking for a Fountain of Youth, no more no less. With that said, I have a feeling that because of the outcome of this film, the Yutani Corporation will play a huge role in this version of the story and will project the "Corporation" as the antagonist, as was the case with the Alien series.

It would be interesting to know what the Engineers were running from as well, as they were all piled up in one spot. Probably one of their own got infected by the Goo and went postal in the crew. But to throw all of the answers into one sitting is something I'm glad did not happen. We don't have to know everything. The Space Jockey's plot has been that of wonderous curiosity for decades. Ridley always wanted to explain his story, and Prometheus is what we are getting.
