These are the moments when your decision to step away and handle your business kinda slaps you in the face and you wind up feeling this weird mix of jealousy, appreciation, admiration & dismay.

Rather than fake it or make some bullshit sideswiped comment, I can't front, it feels funky seeing the Red reunion finally come off and to not be involved or included.

At the same time, there's not enough time in the month to include everyone who played there as a resident over the years AND I purposely stepped away from the scene for the most part when Red closed so there's really no one to blame but myself. Ultimately they have to put together a line up that's going to have a draw in June 2012, not June 2004.

I suppose it's a testament to Red, to the crowd & to the party that this is the first time since Red closed that I've actually wished I was on the bill, 6 years later.

    God I feel old.

Guaranteed to be a blast though, so maybe I'll go really old school Red & just enjoy my Malibu & Pineapple on the dance floor.

    right?

The write-up for Kostas on U street's site talks about him opening clubs in the midwest & a having a label & playing alongside Tiesto or some of those other big room progressive/techno cats.

Is that the same Kostas or did they get something mixed up because musically that doesn't sound like his style, but if he managed to accomplish all of that in the past 6 years, gattttdamn!

Last time I was around there, it looked like Fly was closed down.

There was some drama that went down there with the ownership group. I don't know if it resulted in the place closing down for good, or if it just wasn't open that specific night (but I seem to recall this being a prime time weekend night).

I remember taking some satisfaction in the fact that they booted out a solid club with a crowd that ran for 9 or 10 years straight, in favor of quick cash, and the place was closed down within a couple of years.

BTW ... suggestion for someone connected to the club, to please start a proper Red Reunion thread w/ all (or none of the) DJs in the subject title (for the aggregate respect that the club (and everyone that played there) deserves)

... and also b/c, this one is going to get outta had pretty fast, based on the last few posts

Nah, it isn't some pandering thread.

It's too much to explain without putting other people's business on front street but lets just say sometimes, karma bites you in the ass.

As someone who's moderately intelligent, who has been friends with Chuck since the mid 90's, who was a resident at Red when it closed, who had long discussions with Farid about what & why it happened, I'm entitled to my opinion on what went down and more importantly HOW it went down. I know it's all business etc etc etc. I know nothing is ever permanent & all that.

My opinion has nothing to do with their business model, bottle service, decorations, themes, the music they played or any of that other stuff. It has nothing to do with any of that bullshit.

You don't have to approve the message, you don't have to agree, you might even think you know something about the deal I don't but in the end, I was there when it all went down. I have my opinion.

We can leave it at that.

    Peace

I couldn't agree more. I feel totally uncomfortable with my name above Sam's and I don't know understand why you and Oji aren't involved. I just assumed Farid would be contacting you. Mixed feelings...
