Is that the same Kostas or did they get something mixed up because musically that doesn't sound like his style, but if he managed to accomplish all of that in the past 6 years, gattttdamn!
haha! I saw that and thought the same thing. I'll have to do some investimigating.

not to derail this epic cross-atlantic conflict, but, when I saw Kostas recently he hyped his podcast, so, my man is out there, somewhere

yep again ... major holiday weekends (and pretty much any weekend) you can find great hotel rates ... for all of the reasons that you mentioned, plus in the good weather months, a huge % of folks head to the shore(s) for the wknd ... also b/c of where DC sits (1/2 way up/down the coast) 3 close airports make for quicker & easier wknd getaways up North, and down to FL (with cheaper plane fares right up to the last minute ... can still work a 1/2 day on a Friday, head to the airport, and be on the beach in e.g. FL in the afternoon)

    * also, with tightening company bootstraps, folks that work in the area during the week, that used to stay through the wknd on the company dime, no longer can do that ... also, lots of Fed Gov and Contract workers have in-effect a long wknd every 2 weeks, with flex schedules

Thank you! I have most of those CDs, which were beautifully created but don't play on my PC and can't be ripped by me.

    Best way to put it...

Kostas had very, very eclectic tastes in music but managed to play completely off the beaten path, and yet still play really good music. You have a lot of people that play eclectic, but the draw of their music is that it's eclectic because it's not all that good except to a very, very limited fan base but Kostas had a great ear for music.

He set the mood/tone @ Red on Saturdays for a looooooooooong time (5+ years I think). He really did define what you expected to hear if you went there early and he just worked it so well.

I vividly remember walking in one night, giving Mustafa a pound, grabbing a drink from Ed, walking around the room and saying what's up to everyone.. and out of nowhere Kostas played Everything's Changing by Groove Collective. It was the first time I'd ever heard it (as far as I know, he broke that record @ Red) and it was one of those perfect moments where just the whole thing (the visuals, the music, the crowd, the drink, the ride to the club, etc) just clicked and I was immersed in that song, in that moment. I've probably got 5 or 6 instances like that in all of my years going to clubs & that was one of them.

That & Kostas was just a genuinely good dude. When I started playing @ Red, he welcomed me with open arms. There wasn't any funny snide comments or talking behind my back or jockeying for positions or any of the other typically shady shit that goes on in the DJ scene, particularly when the "new guy" on the block gets a gig at such an important venue. He was just a genuine, good dude from my every encounter with him.

As for his mixes... always solid, always great artwork included, and ALWAYS some sort of story behind it in some way, shape or form with his unique sense of humor too it.

It'll be good to see him @ the reunion.

    Peace

The stuff about the travel deals is very educational. I'm planning my next vacation and I'm still figuring out where to go in August. Thanks for the tips.
    Martino's criteria for mixes:

He he, I followed Kostas on Mixcloud today and we then connected on Facebook. He is the same great guy he always was, and it was lovely to catch up with him again.

FYI, the web site for U Street Music hall has the wrong Kostas.

where do i begin? i'm floored with the loving i'm getting. since the closing of "red" and "lizard lounge", my other residency, it's been a hard road, and then i read this. it makes it all worth it. since english is my second language and if i go on an on i'll break down and cry like a little girl, i'll communicate with you with music, "music is the key".
i'll see you all at the "red" reunion, i'll be starting the dance and then i'll have a drink with you and enjoy the music from the masters i have learnt from.
i've been posting my mixes on mixcloud (the old and the new), some under my name "dc kostas" some under "doc tv" (they are friends of mine in greece with an online magazine and pod radio). here is the link:
    http://www.mixcloud.com/tag/dc-kostas/
"drops of honey" and "music for lap dances" are my latest ones and what i would be playing at "red" if it was still open. "when at red" & "sensual @ red" are, you guessed it" from the old red days. there are more, you might want to check them. let's say i'm promiscuous when it comes to music. enjoy!
