The late Amy Winehouse's entire vocal style is a cop off of Belita Woods!

Notice when the legend Marshall Jefferson drops knowledge on the P, the clowns aka bedroom DJs go silent!

Every time I sell a bottle of Cristal, a duppy bat kicks a bedroom DJ in the head.

I'm very saddened by the passing of Belita Woods(Who had one of the most distinctive voices in any era), I had the opportunity to see Brainstorm perform at St.Gabriels in East Elmhurst,Queens in 1978(Featuring, Flowers mixing right after Brainstorm's performance), They're we're so many vastly under-rated groups during the 70's and Brainstorm was most definitely at the very top of the list(Those cats should have been superstars, Though, Brainstorm we're truely superstars to

The dance music community during the 70's and 80's, Belita Woods and Leroy Burgess made a plate called, 'The Best of me', In 2005, That's very nice, Along with one of my all-time favorites by Brainstorm, 'If you ever need to cry', From 1977.

Another thing Mike it is sad that u mentioned that there were many groups in that era that should have been superstars, but did not blow up. I guess when u don't have the machine behind you its hard. As I read and listen to those groups from that era, I do wonder the same thing. Why haven't they blown up, and that's the answer I keep comin' up wit.

Really? I dont hear it at all. I would say belita comes from the Aretha Franklin school of singing. Just about every black female singer in the mid to late seventies had the same mezzo-soprano voice like aretha.Thelma Houston, Belita Woods,Cory Daye etc were all emulating Aretha it seems to my ear.I think Deniece Williams,Minnie Riperton,Stefanie Mills and Chaka were disctinctive voices of that time.Amy Whinehouse has a very distinctive voice you know it's her in the first few notes. Belita and Thelma Houston sound exactly alike hard to tell the two apart. Not saying they werent great because they were.

Henry, They're we're so many very talented groups during the 70's, It would have been very hard for most of the groups of the 70's to come off(Gain mad notoriety and fame), My man, Also, We will never know some key factors as to why certain groups never came off during the 70's(Exhibit A:Certain cats in a group being jealous of the person out front singing lead, Certain cats having drug problems or being very hard to deal with, Causing cats to break up, Certain cats seeking to go

Solo, Or just maybe, Certain groups we're just happy doing what they love to do, and that is making very good music, My man, Henry, I always felt that Brainstorm had everything that a group needed to become superstars when it comes to music, Though, Maybe all of the group members aspriations we're not the same in regards to goals and attainments in the music business(Which can be very hard to deal with from what i understand, Especially when you have to deal with a record

Company that is jerking a group out of money and lack of support and promotion too, My man), Phyllis, Where would you rate Phyllis Hyman in regards to distinctive voices, My man.

When I first Tears Dry On Their Own, the first one I thought of was Belita Woods! I listened to it again and again, and am convinced more than ever!

Early Belita (late 60s) is straight-up Aretha! We can agree on that one! And yeah, EVERYONE wanted to sound like Miss Ree!
