Attacking negative campaigning by leading with the condemnation of his own campaign's CORE MESSAGE is completely out of bounds for his ROLE as Obama Campaign surrogate. You keep tossing up notions about negative campaigning, investment banking, campaign hypocrisy and such. When are we going to discuss how he used his status as surrogate to take center stage on Meet the Press, just to be used by the RNC and the Romney Campaign as fodder for...wait for it....wait for it...MORE NEGATIVE ATTACKS?

That's the issue, and you won't discuss it. Instead of TRADING ON HIS SURROGATE STATUS, he should have used it to voice his concerns to the Obama Campaign. Thing is, he's got no juice. He's a local mayor. He's out there HAPPY to be giving talking points. He took a chance to get out in front and glorify himself and, instead of doing the job he agreed to for the Obama Campaign, he broke on the COREY BOOKER CAMPAIGN. "And I have the surrogate notes right here." i.e. "Look at me, being all bad-ass. I'm so moral, I stand for what's right despite being on the president's reelection campaign." More like, "Don't worry those of you who live in Newark but work on the Street. I'll play both sides to the middle."

Then he threw up all over himself. Period. You keep glossing over that. Yeah yeah, investment banks. Yeah yeah, hypocrisy. Yeah yeah, whatever. You show up to a meeting at the gig where the topic is widget production and start going on about being nauseated about off-shore manufacturing and, while you may be taking an impassioned position for yourself, everyone else who needs you to fulfill your role is wondering if and when you'll shut up and get back to work.

Local mayor of the 67th largest city in the US got exposure on Meet the Press, after getting national attention with his stand on marriage equality and saving ladies from home fires, and figured he'd score a hat trick. He got caught up in the bright lights. He forgot he was there to deliver for the Obama Campaign. He was reminded. He went back on Rachel Maddow - who is a sympathizer and personal friend of his - and FELL ON HIS SWORD.

So you just keep on splitting those hairs, my man. Corey Booker forgot - and was subsequently reminded - being a campaign surrogate for the PRESIDENT HIMSELF is an OPPORTUNITY and a PRIVILEGE of a supporter. So you SUPPORT. Whole and IN TOTAL. That includes avoiding discussing what about YOUR OWN CAMPAIGN EFFORT nauseates you. He gambled. He FAILED. Miserably.

Boom. Done. I can't understand this point requires elucidation. Now it's all about Booker. The president has to take time to discuss Booker. Yeah. That's working. He blew it. There's no defense. The president looks as if he can't keep his stable in control. Black politicians look as if they all are rushing to the podium. The Dems look as if there is no cohesion. Sure. It's worth it. Are you kidding me?

I discussed it with my first post in this thread. He was quoted out of context. Yourself, and the other non-watchers of Meet the Press, bit on the media spin like sharks on baby seals.

As for the rest of your screed; if Booker is such a nobody why is he so important to the Obama campaign? Your attempt to joke him out as mayor of the "67th largest city" in the US ignores the fact that his movements are tracked, DAILY, inthe number one ( as in # 1 ) media market in the US so he already has juice and plenty of it

Btw, the actual issue that few on this board will discuss is "What have you done to secure the presidents re-election?". Pardon me for being so gauche as to ask that question, repeatedly, for months, to little response..

"Obama, I got yo back. I'm telling everyone I know that Corey Booker is a shithead" doesn't even make a good bumper sticker

As far as "keeping the stable in control", explain that to Richard Lugar

Like I said though, Democrats have this thing about them where they can't just stay on message in public and handle their shit behind closed doors. Nah, they gotta call press conferences and hop on national news shows running their yaps trying to show off their intellectitude to prove how more forward-thinking they are in comparison to those they are complaining about, or leave a motherfucker hanging in the breeze if they can't feel intellectually superior to them.

I used to work in an office with two guys who would spend 20 minutes of every meeting arguing the most minute, ridiculous bullshit for no other reason than to generate attention for their intellect and their ability to see multiple sides of any topic. That's what Democrats are like... two people arguing, in public, over some dumb shit just to entertain their own visions of intellectualness.

My sitting on the shitter and thinking about this some more reaction:

I wonder if they whole thing is an okey doke/setup & the Romney campaign has bought it, hook line & sinker?

There are some upsides to this little outburst, if played right. I wonder if it's a setup.

I dunno which way to lean.

What's more likely, Obama being a master strategist or Democrats willingly fucking each other over for their own benefit?

this is definitely something Ive questioned. Corey is usually more disciplined that what he has just done, and it just doesnt make logical sense (to moo).

Even if he felt that way,for him to do that was soooooo unbridled and unneccessary. totally out of character for CBook. And BHO's camp doesnt just invite a proven undisciplined element into their camp.

I am totally scratching my head o this ...

    I did a quick check

When Biden announced his support for gay marriage, twasnt no talk about "sabotage" of the Obama campaign and cats needing the spotlight

That kind of talk is reserved for uppity blacks, like Mayor Booker

In fact, some in the press couldn't lick Massa Bidens boots clean enough for forcing the administration to "do the right thing"

Meanwhile it was "attaboys" for the O here on the P

I can post the thread if you like.

Oops. There I am being gauche again. My bags

I agree about the negative campaigning.

I agree that it's an important topic.

I agree that it's something the Obama campaign needs to be very careful about, lest it backfire.

I do not agree that it's appropriate for Booker to decide to broach that subject, in that manner, and throw the campaign he's working for under the bus the way he did.

It's a painful lapse in judgement that's going to be thrown back in both his & Obama's face for a while, all because he was either too arrogant or too short-sighted to recognize what he was setting into motion.

See my above post regarding Biden and gay marriage ( which, as an issue, will linger far longer in this campaign. For real )

Wrong cant ever be right. I commend Booker for stating his mind as I respect those who value honesty regardless of the ramifications. Mayor Booker stated something which needed to be said. If folks choose to focus on half his statement while ignoring the other half, they need to look within themselves and come to grips w what level of deceit and vitriol they themselves are comfortable with

P-Dub.... Question ... Corey's Right to speak what he views as the truth and his statement being in contrast to the BHO message regarding Romney and Bain .... Being true to ones own POV vs the smart thing to say for who you r a surrogate for? How does one reconcile the 2?

It's easy, and, people do it every day:

"While I support the president, I don't believe in 'x'". Mayor Booker expressed that sentiment.

Hes right. Most people don't like negative campaigning. He expressed his support for the president and his nausea regarding negative campaigning by both parties. Folks seem to not like that he stayed on the message espoused by Barack Obama in 2008. A message that engendered rabid support

do you believe that CBook "weighed the weight of his words" before speaking? Do you believe this (CBooks off msg tv appearance) is damaging to BHO?

Could CBooks held his tongue about belief about Bain until he was in a better arena to speak "his thoughts" ? should the POTUS' agenda been put first before CBooks personal viewpoint being expressed ?

I don't think it's damaging at all. In the end, this presidents campaign will hinge on the strength of the economy, the outlook for the future, and the hard work of his supporters. This nonsense just keeps pundits paid and away from real work

As for putting the presidents agenda first, that's not true of anyone. We all put our personal agendas first. Everyone of us (well, maybe not his Secret Service detail). The degree to which we coalesce with anyone is dependent on how closely our respective visions overlap. That's just being rational. I vote for the president be ause he does x for me. To deny this is to lie

well.. for me ... I dont know that THAT IS what CBook did .... its so uncharacterically uncommon on both BHO's camp and for CBOOK which has me scratching my head on this.

I definitely agree with some of PDub's assessments, just not the application at that time
I definitely can see Deesko's premise...
I feel where Danny is coming from

but I need more info on this... before I make a determination of how I feel about this sitch.

there is something missing here... a definite disconnect (for me)

I agree with alot of this. when you make someone a surrogate.... thwy should be in step with you and your msg, cause, perspective ...ect and Im not saying Corey wasnt but based on what I have seen and heard ... I not so sure Face the Nation was the platform for him to speak independent of the cause he was a surrogate for ....

I will say this .... CBooks statements have people diggn for more information and thats always positive

When I'm nauseated by something of which I am intimately involved but don't have the control required to change, I respectfully resign. THEN I voice my displeasure. I don't leverage the status I receive from my association to voice my opinion against that which bequeathed my status upon me. I don't use the spotlight that comes with that very status to stand apart. If he wasn't a campaign surrogate, he wouldn't be on Meet the Press in the first place.

The man began his statement by defending the opposition, highlighting HIS OWN position on the matter and then remarked he was nauseated by the tactics of the campaign which bestowed him his surrogate status. Nauseated. His word.

Once I had an IT gig and, after 2mos of frustration, I wrote my boss an email detailing all the ways it was difficult to abide the processes and procedures. I was called to her office to find her and the head of HR waiting with exit papers. She said to me, "Daniel, we're sorry to receive your resignation letter. Good luck."

When you're nauseated, you resign. You don't leverage and you don't seize the high ground on national television. There's no justification. If Booker couldn't stomach the message, he didn't belong on Meet the Press. He was there as surrogate to the POTUS. That means he was a message carrier. Not a message MAKER.

None of this should be terribly difficult to grasp for anyone who has any real experience representing the interests of others. Team Obama picked the wrong guy. Is it that difficult to accept Booker was out for self and got caught up?
