As for the charges against me, I am unconcerned. I am beyond their timid lying morality, and so I am beyond caring.

Surprised it wasn't posted earlier. Too funny!
"There are no uninteresting things, only uninterested people."
Sometimes I wonder why my white friends always seem to find these videos that make black folks seem like bloody retards.
Not to black folks, mind you. See, we look at other black folks and we don't see black folks. We just see folks. Some folks are real characters.
Y'all, though - I dunno. If my liberal sensitivities were fragile, I probably wouldn't test them by delighting in stereotypes.
That, or I'd try to find videos that find balance.
I guess buffoonery is like the mafia. Every time I think I'm out, they pull me back in.
'I mean, shit, you can't hate on ass n titties music.' - D J 1 3 8
I see your point. I do. And there have certainly been more of these video "remixes" of black folks on the interwebz. But I guess I don't think these always paint people as retards --just the characters they are. I think one can appreciate characters without looking down upon them.

Sure, that's YOU. My experience is, when white folks laugh at black buffoonery, I can’t be certain that said white folks aren’t willing to see me as a potential buffoon. It’s been my experience that, as soon as white folks get comfortable with black folks, they recall that crass humor and direct it at us.
I was in a golf manufacturer's workshop in Austin last week with 6 strangers from different parts of the world. I was learning about advanced techniques in equipment fitting and club making. By day 2, the Americans all had black jokes. "Gee Danny...with those safety glasses on, you look like you're ready to go hang with your homies." Day 3, The guy directing a particular portion of the class asked me to demonstrate something and says, "Okay Danny...if we could just get you to put on your pimp glasses..." Neither one of these cats knew me from Denzel. Just brazen. That's when I had to shut it down.
You stop by my crib one morning while my daughters are visiting and, say, see one of them with a scarf on her head, I gotta wonder if you're recalling that sister above. See what I'm sayin'.
I'm old school like that. You can't let a white boy get too comfortable with you. Feelings start getting hurt.
'I mean, shit, you can't hate on ass n titties music.' - D J 1 3 8
All true. But do such considerations among strangers out in the world preclude us (DHPers, who know folks like these personally) from seeing the humor in characters such as this woman? Must we shun it because of its potential adverse effects on the ignorant? I guess I feel like those who seek reinforcements for their own prejudices will find them, no matter how hard they need to look.

I'm not speaking globally. I'm speaking personally. Don't let my gravitas preclude what I'm saying.
I'm being for real. Me, Danny, personally find that white boys don't tell the truth about their ideas about black folks. They do, however, reveal it through the shit they do in jest and in anger. Watch long enough. Wait long enough. If it's there, you'll see something.
Me, I gotta wonder why this video was brought to this particular audience. I gotta wonder why you were motivated to share. Why you found this particular gaggle of overly proud (bordering on militant) black folks just really needed to see this video. In my experience, if you didn't think of these questions before you posted this video, hanging out with you could be dangerous to me. Granted, I'm a student of human nature.
Dawg, I don't know any people like the folks depicted in videos you, Armen and others post and have posted. If I do, I'm not particularly proud of them. That, or I find them problematic. Any black person who wants to transcend the limiting images of Jim Crow buffoonery would find the above problematic. They may not tell you this, but it ain't a problem you have. It's uniquely a black problem.
So you rush to tha P to provide an audience of proud black folks a video highlighting images and behaviors that don't particularly induce feelings of pride. You posted a video of Mamie. Of Beulah. A black woman with a gold tooth and a scarf on her head, in a southern accent, wide eyed, remarking about barbeque and Lord Jesus. What exactly were you doing? Sharing humor?
C'maaaaaaan.
Folks who seek reinforcements for their own prejudice will find them, sure. You made them easier to find. You may choose to continue finding humor in shit like this. Just know that it contradicts the other parts of you I have gotten to know and appreciate.

Duly noted.
I should also note that in my own (perhaps twisted) way, I already consider some of the things you've been mentioning. Like all of us, I frequent a few other message boards on the internet. For many of the reasons you mentioned above, I would make a point of NOT posting this video on those boards, as I can predict the responses from a certain percentage of ignorant people. For me, there was no other place other than the P that I would be comfortable posting this particular vid. This is because of what I first stated, that those that know characters such as these can laugh at their idiosyncrasies without condemning them. At least that is what I believe. Clearly you think otherwise, and you also feel it betrays prejudices of my own. I respect that former and regret the latter. Peace.

I don't. I asked questions that I believe you didn't ask yourself when you found yourself attracted to the unintended humor of videos such as the one above. It isn't a supposition of prejudice. It is a supposition that nearsightedness makes the above humorous to you. It is that same nearsightedness that made it seem okay to share this video with black folks. You didn't share the video with folks who aren't black who would have taken it as validation of their biases.
But you just had to share it somewhere.
So the safest place you found to do so is among black folks who may regret these sorts of images? You're comfortable that SueT would find this acceptable? You're comfortable that KBig, or BrazenMuse or DiscoGoddess or Cleodine Velvet Jackson would appreciate the humor in this?
The thought process is all I'm highlighting.

wait what i do? i thought about sharing this video too (not here) but decided against it basically because what you're saying here.
Food for thought, Danny.
